Welcome to my fanworks!

If you'd like to transform any of these into your own creative work, whether that be a remix, podfic, art, vid, or whatever, please feel free!  Just drop me a note somewhere; I'd love to see the results.

Note:  I tend to bump up ratings when in doubt, so my NC-17 may be your R or even PG-13.  As always, YMMV.

The Vancouver con was fun! It wasn't the concentrated giddiness of the Minneapolis con, but neither was it the introverted loneliness of pre-fangirl, Hewlett Harem, con attendance.

Highlights:

ExpandSo many good things! )

However, getting there (and back) was decidedly NOT half the fun. ExpandSo many bad things )

One of these days, I will attend a con, and there will be NO DRAMA. At least the Emperor and the dog got fed in my absence, and school was attended. They both missed me a lot, which warmed my heart.

I am still gobsmackingly tired. It did not help when I stepped into an online discussion today, trying to point out the insulting nature of "a little bit pregnant" and how pregnancy is not a binary condition, to counteract a whole lot of mansplaining. I thought I was done with crying at work. *sigh*

Next up: my vid!

How ridiculous and/or redundant would it be to make an SG-1/Hathor vid to Robert Palmer's "Simply Irresistible"?

I also want to do an SGA/Jeannie Miller vid to "Man Smart, Woman Smarter", because McKay's (Hewlett's) cavalcade of indignant faces never gets old, and because Kate Hewlett totally deserves one.

The to-vid list has reached over 200 entries. Someday...

Being a fangirl on vacation is so liberating. I've been assured multiple times by the husband that he and the Emperor are doing fine, so I'm attempting to quash the guilt of abandoning my parental post and enjoy this tourist abroad thing to the fullest extent.

I've taken goofy pictures out of car windows, snapped the required shot of McKay Avenue outside the hotel, and asked newbie questions about the money. Hello, Canada!

I saw David Nykl and Patrick Currie last night, both of whom were very charming and funny. I missed taking shots of the latter, but did get some great ones of Nykl.

ExpandPics here! )

I'm skipping Alex Zahara (bad fangirl!), and lounging until it's time for Andee Frizzell, and later on Kavan Smith. I have to ration out the quiet, as tomorrow is going to be a busy day.

Well, I missed the deadline for [community profile] kink_bingo. I did finish four out of the five story ideas I had, all since Monday, for a total of about 6600 words or so. The fifth is basically plotted out. I'll be in great shape to post them when the amnesty starts on September 15th. Thank you mods and participants for being awesome!

Now that I'm not gunning for the finish line, I could really use betas for them, if anyone is available. I've got a Jack Carter Eureka story, a John/Rodney SGA offering, Tara/Willow from BtVS, and Minerva McGonagall/Pomona Sprout ala Harry Potter. The fifth one, when it's done, will be Jake/Diane from Jake 2.0. (My fandom brain is a gadfly, what can I say?) I still need titles for most of those, too. Buh.

I am soooo far behind on everything else, between being at the con last weekend and getting my kink on since then. (I think it counts as a new frontier for me, writing during my son's capoeira class.) [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match is over and done with, and I've got at least a week and half's worth to still read. Go Team Work! [personal profile] kate posted her recs here, and I have to say I agree with most of her picks, and the rest are just ones I haven't yet read. I've been chuffed to get some lovely comments on mine - not bad for another piece of speed-writing.

My LJ is at skip=Headache. I've got today and tomorrow to plot out my Dragon*Con plan of attack, now that my Hewlett-stalking time has freed up. *sigh* This includes packing and mapping and everything. Anyone else planning on attending aside from the couple of you I've talked to?

And I suppose I should actually do some work at some point. Meh.

In the interests of closing a few tabs, have some links!

The Cameron Mitchell & Daniel Jackson [livejournal.com profile] lilblckdressfic is back in action! Signups close Wednesday, September 10th. [personal profile] kazbaby, I totally plan to sign up, just as soon as I can point my brain in that direction.

David Hewlett did a podcast with GeekDad last night - you can download it here. I haven't listened to it yet; I'm thinking it will make for good plane audio.

For the Highlander and Peter Wingfield fans: Peter Wingfield answers 11 of your deepest Highlander questions!. I haven't watched this either, since work's firewall is a pissy hall monitor.

Ta for now!

OK, fine, I'll post The Beast, but I gotta warn you - this fic has Ideas. Pretensions, even. I've got the rough storyline planned out (with one glaring fork in the road which it hasn't yet decided on), and a few conversations here and there (do you all have the problem where the dialogue is a breeze, but the transitions are a total BITCH?), but nothing like a schedule of releases or an estimated size or anything freaking USEFUL like that.

So...without further ado (or additional fucking aggro), let me introduce you to "Standing Room Only", a Mezzanine offshoot. This is set a bit after the events of Carry That Weight. In all honesty, this was prompted by one of [personal profile] synecdochic's comment responses a couple years back about a character that could "suck the chrome off a bumper and polish it to a doozy", or something like that. I don't even claim to know how my mind works.

Guys? GUYS???!!! Why didn't you tell me there was a Stargate: SG-1 ornament out there, waiting to grace my Space Battle Tree?

Sadly, there are no stores within a reasonable driving distance that carry it. (I know, the Space Battle Tree is kinda far beyond reasonable, but I don't have a lot of spare time as we race headlong towards Christmas.) BUT! There is a store about halfway between me and my folks that is willing to hold one for me until the day after Christmas, and as we will be driving right by it...OH YES, IT WILL BE MINE.

So you all are off the hook for now.

Besides, I completely durped on telling you that Amazon had Farscape: The Complete Series on monster sale for a while there. Sorry if you didn't grab one like I did! But can I just say how happy it makes me that it's now temporarily out of stock? Hello, PTB! We would like MOAR FARSCAPE PLEEZE. Make with the webisodes already!

And hey, if anyone wants seasons 1 through 4 of the original ADV releases, I now have a superfluous set - huzzah!

Title: Four things Vala would miss about Earth if she left & one that she wouldn't
Rating: PG
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Word Count: 1000

Author's Notes: This was originally written for Prompt 74.02 at [livejournal.com profile] sg1_five_things, Five things Vala would miss about Earth if she left. My initial thoughts were somewhere around combining Vala's favorite pastimes with her teammates...then this happened. Thanks go to [personal profile] kazbaby for giving this a look-see and poking me to flesh out some parts.

Four things Vala would miss about Earth if she left & one that she wouldn't

ExpandVala had a series of escape plans worked out even before she stepped through the Gate that first time to Daniel's world, plans that were discarded and replaced on her initial evaluation of the layout of the SGC. )

I am grossly overdue for the five things meme as suggested by [livejournal.com profile] darsynia. (Since it was never explicitly defined, I'm regarding these as five things she either associates with me or explanations of which she'd like to see me stumble through.)

So for her edification, and anyone else's who cares to read:

A while back, the gracious and talented [livejournal.com profile] ivorygates posted her Not a 'Waterloo' mix, a song list for her gorgeously aching love story Waterloo Bridge, an SG-1 AU with a gender-flipped Daniel Jackson. We got into something of a discussion about other compatible songs. There may have been subliminal coercion going on, because before I knew it, I got infected with the urge to create a collection myself.

The following would be the result.

I've been fussing, rearranging, and cutting for a bit now, and I think I must call it done before I fall into a state of endless dithering.

ExpandExplanations and prevarications )

Of course, this is dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] ivorygates, for all the hours I've spent blissfully lost in your work. I ran out of marble for your temple, so this will have to do instead.

Another one for the archives:

"A Little Less Conversation (JXL Remix)", Elvis Presley. A Stargate inclusive vid, with the jocks versus the nerds. How many times has O'Neill cut off Daniel or Sam in the middle of a lengthy explanation? How often has Sheppard told McKay to talk less, run more?

"A little less conversation, a little more action please" just begs for it. Plus, "Close your mouth and open up your heart and baby satisfy me" -- implied hookups!

Why, yes, I am avoiding work.

Today is my Friday. Well, at least Friday, part one, because I'm taking tomorrow off for my birthday. I'm scrambling to get an ADO presentation ready for Monday afternoon (no homework, dammit!), and my long-suppressed paper-in-a-day generation skills are coming in very handy. (What the hell did I do before internet sources (bless you, Wikipedia!) anyway?)

I wanted to follow in others' footsteps and post some fic, including the BSG PWP that stalled out a month ago. I resurrected it this past week and finally got the smut started. Sitting through our staff meeting just now, I actually plotted out the rest of the story. I am going to be blushing so damned hard as I write this. (Hey, [livejournal.com profile] sabaceanbabe, do you think you'll have time tomorrow to give it a quick look-see?)

Speaking of...ExpandTMI question about Helo's vs. Sam's, er, attributes ) ...This is what fic does to my brain.

I also wanted to post my response (SG-1, a conversation between Cam and Vala) to [livejournal.com profile] ivorygates' wonderful comment-fic, only I can't seem to find a beta for it. I may just put it up and hope you guys don't wince too hard.

OK, back to work. (As much as I can with these visions of porn dancing in my brain. I suppose it could be worse -- it could be some combination of Cam/Cammie/Daniel/Dani/JD. *grin*)
