TvTropes, I am very disappointed in you. Why don't you have a category named "Secret Agent Ma'am" for all the lady spies?

In other news, I'm pondering a multifandom vid inspired by Agent Carter and all the Black Widows (and all the other fantastic MCU women), about a Ladies Super Spy Academy, with the motto "You'll never see us coming".

Well, the Fembots vid has been submitted to the VVC queue, hopefully arriving in a viewable fashion. I'm not done done with it; the credits are bare bones, there are still a few clips that need tweaking, and I have vidder's remorse of sources that didn't get included but should have. I winced even as I hit submit, because I knew if I didn't let it go I'd be tweaking things and re-rendering into the wee hours of the morning, and I was already past the deadline. Plus, I'm paranoid about the sizing and aspect ratio; I have no idea how much Sony Vegas automagically took care of for me in stringing together the completely disparate sizes, and if it's going to appear acceptably or as utter garbage on the projection screen. (Holy crapballs, was it a wide range of sizes!)

Many thanks to [personal profile] sabaceanbabe and [personal profile] kass for supportive squee, and [personal profile] jetpack_monkey for valuable source info and feedback. You guys are the best! Also, much love and gratitude to my husband for putting up with me pouring all my free time into my endeavor, and watching new versions and cheering me on as I wondered if it was worth it.

But for now, I can let my brain idle back down from my obsessive 24/7 vid-focus and actually get some other stuff done, like my reading page, the emails that have stacked up, and, I dunno, some actual work for this job that pays me.

...Wait, how do I do this life thing again?
grammarwoman: A purple tulip in Spring (Spring Tulip)
I've been home the past four days, both on behalf of the Emperor and his "This isn't for Easter, no siree" long weekend, and because I needed to burn off some PTO before it evaporates at the end of the month. As always, I had such lofty goals of things I wanted to accomplish, but it's a lot easier to imagine things done than taking the actual time and energy to complete them.

Cooking! )

Gardening! )

Cleaning! )

Still on the list )

At some point soon I also need to start some seeds indoors, though it's probably not worth it considering the last frost date is estimated to be sometime this week or next.

I had an ambitious idea for a Club Vivid vid, but considering I have all of 30 seconds on the timeline, a ton of unreviewed sources, and a due date of Friday, I may have to give myself a pass on that one, alas.

But Spring is here, and food is cooked, and I have only three days in my work week before I'm off again to use up some more PTO. I hope you all have a delightful week yourselves.

It's been a weird week for me. Work has been lovely and quiet, with a glacially slow queue of requests, so I've been able to catch up on everything that got backlogged with my con weekend. I'm enjoying the heck out of people's renewed efforts to post more often; it feels like old times. The conference at the Emperor's school yesterday went well, and he seems to be in good hands.

But it's also been really hard in other ways. I strained or otherwise tweaked something in my upper back, so it's been sore for days now and getting better too damned slowly. I'm trying be patient with the husband's job search, or lack thereof, while also being anxious about pondering a job switch myself. We've got home repairs looming, new windows and exterior painting, that keep getting pushed off, when I just want them DONE already.

But the biggest thing has been my due date that came and went this week; emotionally, I'm still getting over the loss. I've stopped checking FB on any kind of regular basis so I don't have to see people announcing pregnancies, or posing with their new babies, or getting on with their seemingly charmed lives. I still cringe at going through store ads with baby sections. I have to put on a stoic face every time my coworker talks about his pregnant teenage daughter and her upcoming delivery.

I've been putting off going back to the infertility clinic, what with my weight gain and my dread of going the whole process again with even worse odds, but I think I need to, if only to get unstuck and start moving on.

I've also been poking at ideas for a vid, about miscarriage and loss and other problems on the path to motherhood, but I can't tell if it's rubbing salt in the wound or will wind up being therapeutic.

I hope this long weekend lets me displace my frustrations into attacking the craphole that my house has become. Getting off the damned couch should solve several problems at once.

I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend full of good things.

How can I have vid ideas for a show I'm NOT EVEN WATCHING??!!

Fannish osmosis, I blame you - and all the delicious, tempting Derek/Stiles fic.

NYARGH.

At least it's a little distraction from my current Veronica Mars fixation.

Oh, for a beautiful copy of "The Avengers"!

Because right now, I am possessed with the desire to vid the hell out of it to a bunch of the songs on Queen's album "A Kind of Magic". "One Vision" for the triumphant team in action! "A Kind of Magic" for the gratuitous Tesseract phlebotinum and Asgardian technology! "Gimme the Prize" for Loki! "Princes of the Universe" for all the insanely hot people in this movie (though it would also make for an epic Thor vid)!

This is what I get for having my brain immersed in Avengers GIFs and party posts for the last week.

How ridiculous and/or redundant would it be to make an SG-1/Hathor vid to Robert Palmer's "Simply Irresistible"?

I also want to do an SGA/Jeannie Miller vid to "Man Smart, Woman Smarter", because McKay's (Hewlett's) cavalcade of indignant faces never gets old, and because Kate Hewlett totally deserves one.

The to-vid list has reached over 200 entries. Someday...
grammarwoman: A lovely redhead uses her laptop to vid. (Vidding)
In preparation for making a vid for the upcoming Chicago Creation con, I re-ripped all of my SGA DVDs (stupid external HD literally crashed, from the table to the tile floor, thanks to the Emperor) at a leisurely pace. Then I looked at the due date and had a panic attack.

The result is, I've spent the last week immersed in vidding and finally came up for air today. I haven't kept up with anything or anyone, I'm low on sleep, and I feel a little out of touch with the world, but my first draft is done!

Anyone want to beta a goofy SGA vid? It's two minutes long, so it's not a huge commitment of time.

Thanks!

(Now, off to conquer my reading lists...)

Title: Situation Normal: All Frelled Up - A Farscape Love Story
Fandom/Characters: Farscape, John/Aeryn
Music: "Laid", by James
Spoilers: All the way up to Peacekeeper Wars
Vid Download Link: Sendspace, 28 MB (updated 3/20/2018)

AO3 link.

Notes: My very first vid! Thank yous and babblings )

I am so stupidly proud of this. Some of the clip/music pairings may only make sense in my head (mad props if you can pick out my favorites), but the fact that I've been working on this vid for over a month and I still love both it and the song must mean I did something right. I'm aiming to submit this to Creation for the upcoming con (every little bit helps with the fees for that beast). But more than that - I VIDDED!

If you could, please let me know what you think, even if it's just to say you downloaded it and it made you smile.

ETA: And now an embed!
Vid here! )

Hi! It turns out that I took an inadvertent 10-day vacation from DW/LJ, for no apparent reason other than my brain went into hiding and wanted to do nothing more than play lots of Mafia Wars and work on a thing. So now I'm slowly but surely catching up on the backlog. Eep!

I conned! )

I vidded! )

I dreamed! (It was much better than CATS...) )

...I vidded. This is still delightful and amazing to me.

Bopping along to the radio on the way home today, I smiled to hear one of my favorite songs, "Laid", by James. As happens all too frequently to me nowadays, about two lines in I was struck by another vid idea: Farscape's John/Aeryn. The lyrics are a ridiculous match that had me giggling: "Dress me up in women's clothes / Messed around with gender roles" with clips from "Premiere", "Scratch 'n Sniff", and "Coup by Clam" ... "My therapist says not to see you no more / You're like a disease without any cure" with the shots of Dr. Zhaan from "Won't Get Fooled Again" and afflicted Aeryn in "DNA Mad Scientist".

WANT NEW COMPUTER THAT CAN VID. *sulk*

Have a great weekend, everybody!
grammarwoman: (Default)
...Because it surely isn't here at work.

Friday! Long Weekend! Wheeeeee....

Another in a series of my brain desperately ducking out of thinking about Practical Things:
New idea for a vid -- "Firestarter", by The Prodigy, devoted to the antics of our favorite Nebari, Chiana. If anyone is a twisted firestarter, it's her.

And because it made me giggle ridiculously:

"Sexyback", Justin Timberlake, Sheppard serenading McKay (yup, another one). "You see the shackles", "Take 'em to the bridge", "I think you're special, what's behind your back?"...well, it makes sense in MY head. *grin*
grammarwoman: (Default)
Two new McKay/Sheppard ideas...

"Connection", Elastica -- lots of explosions to go with the big booms of the song, frantic running, and then face-to-face moments. "Riding on any wave // There is the luck you crave // They don't believe it now, // They just think it's stupid ... I don't understand how a heart is a spade // But somehow the vital connection is made"

"I'm With You", Avril Lavigne -- total sap vid. Parallel stories of isolation: John in "Epiphany", Rodney in "Grace Under Pressure", both of them terrible at discussing feelings when they're together. "There's nothing but the rain // No footsteps on the ground // I'm listening but there's no sound ... And everything's a mess // And no one likes to be alone ... I don't know who you are // But I, I'm with you".

Oy. Trying to get my head into the work thing, as I've been declared technically free to work on the Other Dreaded Project while still finishing up the current one. Trying, and failing mightily. *sigh*

I need to keep my eyes on the carrot of an afternoon of surfing, if and only if I get this crap done.

Right. Later all.
grammarwoman: (Default)
Another one for the archives:

"A Little Less Conversation (JXL Remix)", Elvis Presley. A Stargate inclusive vid, with the jocks versus the nerds. How many times has O'Neill cut off Daniel or Sam in the middle of a lengthy explanation? How often has Sheppard told McKay to talk less, run more?

"A little less conversation, a little more action please" just begs for it. Plus, "Close your mouth and open up your heart and baby satisfy me" -- implied hookups!

Why, yes, I am avoiding work.
grammarwoman: (Default)
By the time I actually get around to achieving the holy state of "Being Ready to Vid (Time and Equipment Permitting)", I'm gonna have such a backlog.

This mental movie really made me grin, though:

"Ain't No Other Man", Christina Aguilera, McKay/Sheppard (Either Rodney's perspective on John, or a flip halfway through to John's POV on Rodney). I mean, "You got style, you got class, you got soul, you're badass." -- how perfect is that?

Oh, and for those of you who actually read these brain farts, I'm counting on you to point out if these vids have already been made, because I'm hopelessly out of touch on matters such as these.
grammarwoman: (Crichton on ice)
More mental housekeeping...

"Miss Independent", Kelly Clarkson, a Sam Carter SG vid. (The trick would be deciding who to pair her with for the "fell in love" part: the canon choice of Jack, the goofy choice of McKay, or the personally pleasing choice of Mitchell? I've got time to decide.)

"Little Red Corvette", Prince, a John Sheppard loves his puddlejumpers (and maybe Ascended women) vid.
grammarwoman: (Default)
I've given up.

I'm just resignedly listing all my video ideas to my LJ, against the day that I actually get some decent equipment for vidding, so these ideas can stop PESTERING MY BRAIN.

Cake, "Love You Madly", BSG romances.

Pixies, "Here Comes Your Man", SGA, McKay and Sheppard

In other news, I've been collecting all sorts of music downloads from LJ people, doing a horrible job of what comes from where. So whoever posted Imani Coppola's "Legend of a Cowgirl", thank you. That's one of those songs that I heard on the radio and instantly loved, and then never bothered to track down.

Appeasement

This goes in the list of things my mental vidder would love to do:

"Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson, an "All my Fandoms" vid. Gods, who wouldn't I put in it? La Femme Nikita, Farscape, Jake 2.0, John Doe, SG-1, SGA, BSG, T:TSCC, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dark Angel, Pushing Daisies, Highlander, Forever Knight, B5, ST:DS9, Veronica Mars, Heroes, Kindred: The Embraced...and that's just the TV shows with sci-fi/fantastical overtones. Any obvious oversights? (Note: I don't watch Smallville or Supernatural, and I'm trying to forget that I once liked Charmed. Birds of Prey is Right Out [Damn you, Dina Meyer!].) ETA: Of course, how could I forget Doctor Who, Alias, X-Files, and Twin Peaks?

"Black Tongue" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, for "Veronica Mars". "Boy you're just a stupid bitch and girl you're just a no-good dick."

I picked up the new TMBG DVD/CD offering today, "Here Come the 123s". The Emperor's seen a couple of previews from the podcasts already. We went over to [livejournal.com profile] the_sween and [livejournal.com profile] hecateuse for a massive ham dinner (still full!), and the DVD was viewed on their projector screen. He was enthralled. It was awesome.

Driving along while running errands today, I heard a horrible remix of Bjork's "Big Time Sensuality". I don't know how they could make such an upbeat, danceable song sound flat and mechanical, but they did, to a generic techno beat. *blech* However, it poked me that the original would make an excellent Vala vid. (The brain, it does not stop.)

My son, the frighteningly smart, tool-using monkey, was downstairs while I was upstairs getting some clothes for him. The phone rang, and it was a friend telling me about the Borders weekend coupon. I kept hearing a kid's voice, but I thought it was on her end, until she said "Hi, [Emperor]!" The little rascal had picked up the cordless and pressed the correct button to listen in, a button that looks pretty similar to those surrounding it.

Things like that just hammer home how doomed we are.
grammarwoman: (Default)
Latest idea: "Figured You Out" by Nickelback for a Cam/Daniel twisted SG-1 vid.

Also floating through my head: "She Drives Me Crazy" by Fine Young Cannibals, starring Chiana (Farscape),
"What a Wonderful World" with John Crichton, and "She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd with John/Aeryn. Or McKay/Carter.

AGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH! STOP IT! DO NOT WANT!

(It's very odd to find "Dragula" soothing, if only because someone else did the vid for that. Silly brain.)

ETA: Now I've got Starbuck in "Never Gonna Come Back Down". *whimper* Is it ever going to be safe to listen to music again?
