Eep! My long-anticipated con weekend is here, where I'm going to attempt quality face time at both the Chicago Creation Con and Vividcon. I couldn't give up either, so both it is. :) Looking at the panel lineup at VVC, though, I am beyond torn. So much good squishy there! I will have to play catch-up later.

I'll be staying at the Vividcon hotel (free continental breakfast!), so the onus is on me to find my Stargate peeps at the Creation con. I haven't seen you guys in a WHOLE YEAR (*sniffles*) so PLEASE let me know if you're attending, either here or in email, and when I might be able to see you. I will be in the area from Thursday afternoon to Sunday night (I wish I could stay over until Monday morning, but the Emperor's first day at his new school takes precedence.)

Here's my plan: I have a gold ticket for Creation, in seat D3 (it's way over to the side, alas, but at least that means closer to the front for lining up). I wish I knew what Creation's schedule was, but for now, I plan on my butt being in that seat for Kate Hewlett, David Hewlett, and Ben Browder on Saturday, and Amanda Tapping on Sunday. So, if I can get registered on Thursday or Friday morning and meet up with people, that seat is available for someone else to use all of Friday and any open slots on Saturday and Sunday. This means that I'll also be missing the Dessert party on Saturday night, so someone can snag my badge for that as well.

Currently, Amanda Tapping, Ben Browder, Joe Flanigan, Christopher Judge, Torri Higginson, David Hewlett, and Kavan Smith are on the included autograph list for my ticket. Of those, I only really want Tapping, Browder, and Hewlett. I'd love to set up either a swap or just gift those other autographs so they're not wasted. (And if anyone isn't planning on using their option for one or more of those three, I'll take it off your hands. :D )

I am still debating about photographs, but I might just have to let those go in order to attend more panels at VVC. (Why is there still no cloning or teleportation technology available? I have NEEDS!) I expended all my vid energy this year in making my first submission to Vividcon's Club Vivid party (WOO!), so there's no Stargate vid entry for me. Maybe this year I'll catch them playing one of my old ones, heh.

I am so excited to see everyone at both cons; it's been a long dry spell for intense fangirl time for me, and I miss you all. I hope to see you there!

The end of day camp, two cons, and the start of school all done - I may yet survive August. Whew!

Two weekends ago was Vividcon. It blew me away. I was expecting the intense happiness of getting to meet friends finally in person, and talking nonstop of fannish things, but the friendliness and inclusiveness bowled me over. Almost everyone was welcoming and happy to hang out with a complete n00b like me, even the vidding BNFs. And such a world of fandoms! I got to gush about "Grease 2" and SGA and BSG, all in the space of a few minutes. Club Vivid was so much amazeballs fun that I wish it were a monthly event. And the vids! OMG the vids. Someday I aspire to make something half as good as what was shown. I am so going back next year if I can. And next year, I'm not leaving at 11 PM on Sunday to drive home. I was so wrecked the next day at work.

Then this past weekend was the Chicago Creation con, and boy, did they con me out of a lot of money, heh. More and more, I wish for chances just to squee with my fellow fans who have become friends, and not be rushed from celeb event to event. But I can't complain too much about getting to see Ben Browder and David Hewlett that many times.

Lessee, first there was Ben at the breakfast on Saturday, then his panel, photo op, and signing. (Many blessings and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mercury973 and [livejournal.com profile] gyri for giving me their Ben autographs. I still think you guys are kinda nutty, but it certainly benefited me!)

On Sunday, while waiting for David Hewlett's meet and greet with [livejournal.com profile] ailurophile6, we got to see him come in with his luggage, head back upstairs, then return with coffee and breakfast. The meet and greet itself was the usual outstanding fun. I got to ask him about the uncanny similarities of Paul McGillion's new project with David's ongoing Starcrossed plans. He hemmed and hawed, then stated that at first he "didn't love" how close they seemed, but explained that Paul's thing will be focused on the actor's life and his friends, where Starcrossed would be more of a behind-the-scenes of a sci-fi show. Not only is David Hewlett awesome, he's classy, too.

Then there were autographs (David was very nice and scribbled a Mars pawprint on my "A Dog's Breakfast" DVD booklet, since I had everyone else's signature) first thing for everyone but the day passes, so Joe wouldn't be signing things on his way out the door and David wouldn't be there until 11 PM.

Finally we were treated to the David-and-Joe panel of TOTAL RIDICULOUS ENTERTAINMENT. I swear to God, Creation could make a mint if they just taped their damned panel and sold it already. The panel was supposed to be equal parts David, David & Joe, and Joe, but Joe literally would not let David leave the stage. Why does Creation even bother? They should just let the two be together the whole time. (Wait, there I go trying to apply logic to their motivations again.) I would recap it, but [livejournal.com profile] crysothemis did such an amazing job here, you should just go read hers. I love those guys so hard.

Oh! And on Saturday, right before Paul's panel, Creation announced that my vid won! Yay! But then they said it was a Carson-focused vid, which I had to politely refute and explain that it was a team vid. Then Gary defensively asked, "He's in it, though, right?" Technically, yes, for all of two brief seconds. But I had my shiny certificate and voucher, so I was happy. Then we waited and waited and WAITED for it play, and BOO. It had to be skipped due to technical difficulties. Once again, I couldn't win for winning. They played it later after the costume contest, when there was almost no one in the room. *sigh* It did look very pretty on the big screen.

However, I left so late on Sunday I didn't get home until almost 3 AM, and it's taken all week to get my brain back from zombie land. I think there may be suspicious chunks still missing.

My pictures! I have to share my pictures with you, because they make me so giddy.

Me and Ben Browder (I will never tire of hugging that man):

My happiness, let me show you )

Me and David (who continues to indulge me with goofy poses. I simply asked him to choose his weapon, and he went to this):

Are you ready for this? )

I LOVE DAVID HEWLETT, AND I DON'T CARE WHO KNOWS.

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] nakedwesley for being a lovely roommate, and all the rest of you guys for making it so much fun to be a fangirl. I can't wait to see you all next time.

...and the sadness has set in. Yup, the Farscape gathering in LA has been and gone, and I had an absolutely fabulous weekend, but I now have a long, bleak stretch of time with no cons in it. Plus, I am BEYOND tired from an over-full weekend. Waking up this morning with a full-on dermal allergic reaction (swollen hands, rashy arms and legs) of unknown origins and the ensuing dosing of Benedryl has not helped matters at all. (I'm blaming the hotel room, but not its occupants - I have nothing but gleeful thanks for my patient roommates [personal profile] nakedwesley, [personal profile] vecturist, and [personal profile] pavaneofstars. I had a blast hanging out with you ladies, and I hope to do so again.)

I have every intention of posting an actual wrap-up (though my history of following through with such is abysmal), but I thought I'd share some highlights with you.

Scapers ROCK. )

My vid rolled! (Without me, though. *sniff* )

Happiest filling EVER. )

GUH. I get to go home soon, thank Zod. For all my post-con letdown, I am so happy to be with my family (and my very own bed) again.

I am grossly overdue for the five things meme as suggested by [livejournal.com profile] darsynia. (Since it was never explicitly defined, I'm regarding these as five things she either associates with me or explanations of which she'd like to see me stumble through.)

So for her edification, and anyone else's who cares to read:

My take on humor, stern face of awesome power, SGA!, the Emperor, and multitasking )

Happy Friday, everybody!

Or, Advice sought from all-knowing flist

I like Farscape. Shocker, I know. )

Why is this relevant?

Shore Leave + Chicago Stargate con = $$$ )

Farscape fans are dirty rotten pushers )

I did my best to squash any thoughts of regret, though. I’d had my two cons. I was done. The household budget had been strained enough for my whims.

Then…then came the last couple of weeks. The husband started working again full-time (Angels sang! Rainbows sparkled! A chorus of Hallelujahs abounded!), and we had hope again for being financially solvent. And then we got a letter and check from a family member who was sharing the wealth. A big check. A Significant Amount of Moolah check.

And a little, quiet voice of (burbank. *sigh*) instantly turned into a tantrum wail of "I WANNA GO TO THE FARSCAPE PARTY IN BURBANK!".

I am so frelling torn.

I'm not easy, but I'm certainly cheap. OK, maybe I am easy. )

Picture John Crichton on one shoulder and Scorpius on the other )

I need help (well, that’s a constant and a given). I need advice. What do you think, flist: do I sigh regretfully and sock the money away, being nobly practical about it all, or do I give flight to my fangirl dreams and blow a lot of money on my sparkly Farscape party?

Da poll! Da poll! )

I know how absolutely ridiculous this is, believe me. Of all the First World problems to have, this is small and petty and stupid to even consider. But…but…it is what it is: something about which I am well and truly torn.

ETA: OK, there's SUPPOSED to be a poll. There's a poll code and everything. WTF, poll?

ETA2: OK, so the husband is pointing out that I could get a new computer for the money. DAMMIT. I didn't need the water to be muddier...

It's tough out there for actors. There Ben Browder was, joining a series that'd been going merrily along without him for 8 years, in order to replace a beloved fixture on the show. Then not only did he have those shoes to fill, he had to play off of another icon of TV and film - Beau Bridges. With years of experience under his belt, Beau knew his way around a set and how to make people adjust to him. Ben shares how he got Beau to get the hell away from his close-ups:

(*sigh* Embed is being RETARDED; have a YouTube link instead. Choosing the high quality option is strongly suggested.)

He really does kiss all his co-workers. Hey, Mr. Browder's agent, can I be in his next project?
grammarwoman: (BB is charmed I'm sure)
The friend I went to the Chicago con with did not quite understand me when I said I wanted as much video as possible of Ben Browder. I don't know how he could have misinterpreted, "If Ben is talking, please be taping." *sigh* But hey, I got snippets of most of it on a very sexy camera, so I can't complain TOO much.

Here's the tail end of Ben singing "Hush Little Baby" to an infant (seriously, who brings a baby to these things?) that had been startled at the crowd noise and commenced screaming. I wish I could have gotten the whole song recorded (he went on for almost a minute) just for those nights when I'm having trouble falling asleep. Oh, and he also talks about kissing his way through the male SG-1 cast. (My apologies for YouTube's less-than-stellar quality - the vid itself looks much better than this.)

*Sigh* Ben Browder, how are you so dreamy?

Dudes, I am so sorry that I'm being pokey about my recap. I've got the notes (*OY*) and such, but every time I go through my pictures and videos to organize them, I get distracted.

But really, can you blame me?

(I recommend clicking through to the big version. Warning: it's big.)

If work stays as calm as it did today (*knocks on wood*), I hope to do some typing up tomorrow, and then quality time with YouTube to get more vids up. (Seriously, does anyone have any tricks on speeding up upload rates? The one with David Nykl took way too long.)

G'night!

...was the sound I made falling into bed last night. It was a whirlwind weekend of weirdness, coming after the personally devastating news that "Stargate: Atlantis" was canceled after this season, and the highs and lows of attending a CretinCreation con for Stargate. On my continual evaluation of "How much do I not want to go to work today?", it ranks about a 5. If I think about how much LJ catchup I need to do, it shoots up to an 7 or 8. Then there's the fact that I haven't gotten to see "The Shrine" yet (DO NOT JUDGE! I was BUSY! And if you maliciously spoil me, I WILL CUT YOU.), which, hey look, I'm at a 8.5! (It would have been a 9.0, but the Australian gymnastics judge lowballed me.)

Blah blah wah wah I'm the anti-demographic )

If I had any kind of honor-among-fans, I'd stop watching T:TSCC, Chuck, Reaper, and Pushing Daisies, and not even pick up Dollhouse, Caprica, or the other newcomers that sound interesting, in order to spare you all the same fate. But no, I'm going to be clinging to them as my remaining lifelines.

But enough about my recurring pain...I went to the Stargate Creation Con in Chicagoland this weekend, saw a lot of familiar faces, uncharacteristically chatted up lots of people in line, met some wonderful SG stars, refrained from swooning at Ben Browder's feet by strength of will, took copious panel notes, and pushed my friend C into capturing lots of vids and pics, which I'll be posting over the next indefinite amount of time.

The question is, which recap should I post first? Hey, I know, I'll do a poll! (It's my first. *blushes*)

This way to the clickies )
But wait, there's footnotes, too! )

If only all Mondays could be this cool...

The husband called me earlier today to let me know that the company that he submitted an application for almost a freaking MONTH ago finally called him to set up a helpdesk aptitude test for later this week. He would be so perfect for this job that it's just amazing. Plus, he hasn't been this excited about a job opening since I can't even remember. Please send out the good juju for him on Wednesday.

I should mention that aside from a few assignments for a crappy consulting company (who still owe him a goddamn paycheck from last year), he's effectively been out of work for 4 years. If he were to get this job, my life would be about 3000 percent better. So yeah, wish him/us luck.

To add to the excitement, I just found out that Ben Browder is planning on attending the Stargate Creation Con in August. In Chicago. So I don't have to fly to Burbank in November to see him in person. (Which would make flying to Maryland in July to see David Hewlett at Shore Leave financially possible. Con slut, baybee!) And yes, I am fully aware of how lame I am that this news makes me just as happy as the former. (Getting the job will, however, rank above getting my hands on Ben Browder. So please don't fuck with me, Fate.)

So yeah, I'm sorry if I ruptured your ears with the SQUEEEEEEEEs that involuntarily escaped me today.
