Summary: A multifandom manifesto of shipping.

WARNING: Suggests incest, adult-underage attraction, and non-canonical pairings, plus really fuzzy clips from YouTube.

Notes: This vid is direct from my id. I would apologize for that and the contents of the warnings, but as the lyrics say, "I don’t care, I ship it." And lo, a Club Vivid entry was born. (I am addicted to the Doppler effect of "Woo!"s rippling through the Club Vivid crowd, as people recognize and cheer for their favorites.) If you can't air out your dirty laundry for fans to dance their butts off to, then what good is fandom?

Fandom, bless them, is also good for doing your homework for you and helpfully listing episode lists of, say, two siblings hugging, or a pair of Very Special Agents standing super close together.

[personal profile] heresluck, thank you for laughing at me and my continued insistence on building multi-source vids and my unsubtle affection for Chris Evans; the encouragement is appreciated, too. :) My gratitude also goes out to all the fan writers who tempted me down dark paths; bless you and your ranges of pairings, from the all-but-canonical to utter crack.

My husband has given up being surprised when I know all about a movie or TV show despite having never seen it, because being fandom adjacent is a sort of omniscience.

However, I feel compelled to confess the gaps in my fannish experience, ie the things I haven't finished or never got around to seeing that it seems EVERYONE else has:

Leverage
Due South
Fringe (though this one is less my fault, as I was specifically asked to not watch it so my TV killing curse would spare it, and then never got back to it)
Orphan Black, season 3ish and onward
The Librarians, season 2 and onward
Avatar: TLA, season 1sh and onward
Legend of Korra
The Clone Wars
Star Wars Rebels
Slings and Arrows
Person of Interest
Supernatural
Parks & Rec
Community

At some point, I would love to get around to working my way through this list. It'll probably mean watching less HGTV, for starters.

So which do you think I should start with? And what fannishly popular media have you missed yourselves?

Posting!

[personal profile] norah has revived [personal profile] cesperanza's month of posting challenge, so here I go!

Life is kinda busy sucking right now - jobs are being stressful for me and the husband, the Emperor's school year has gotten off to a rough start - but I've complained enough to the captive audience here at home, I don't want to bore anybody else.

Have some lists!

TV series I want to start/finish up/mainline:
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Lost Girl
Fringe
Sleepy Hollow
The Middleman

...Heh, I do seem to have an interest in shows with a strong female lead.

Shows that are malingering on my DVR:
Defiance
Face Off
The Big Bang Theory
White Collar
Warehouse 13

The last three are not quite my fault; those are the series I'm watching with my husband, but we can never seem to synch up our time/interest to sit down together and power through them.

Fandoms I'm reading:
Teen Wolf (because Sterek is my cuddly comfort zone right now)
MCU (with strong Steve/Bucky leanings, but still loving most of the pairings and gen and teamy goodness)
Arrow (I don't even watch the show! But Felicity is totally my kind of catnip character - sassy, awkward, quirky tech nerd.)
Veronica Mars (Such great post-movie and AU fic to wallow in!)
Plus the occasional Welcome to Night Vale and other random things that pop on rec lists.

And now for the interactive portion: what are you reading and/or watching? If you don't feel like sharing, give me a number between 2 and 275, and I'll burble at you about my ever-expanding vid idea list.

I am perhaps a leeetle bit tipsy from a glass of wine (and tired, too), and keeping a happy ear out for my husband's chatting on the phone in what sounds like tips and validation for his upcoming interview. If you guys could spare some good thoughts for him around 3 PM CST tomorrow, that would be greatly appreciated.

So I've been thinking: what constitutes being in a fandom? Consuming the source material? Devouring the associated transformative works? Interacting with other fans? Trying to recruit people into your obsession? Or is it merely a self-determination, "I'm in the fandom because I say I am", or the converse of "I'm not in the fandom even though [X]"?

Because I could see an argument for any of those, or some overlap between them. I think I was in the Teen Wolf fandom before I started watching the episodes, just from reading the Sterek fic. I'd call myself a part of the NCIS fandom in that I've seen every episode and am bummed out by the news that Cote de Pablo is leaving, except that I can't stand the predominant ships (Gibbs/DiNozzo and Ziva/Tony) and only read the tiniest sliver of fic. I watched and loved Farscape and Buffy long before I met anyone else who did, way back in the days before I even knew what fandom was, but I don't think anyone could have said that I wasn't a huge fan.

What do you guys think?

Being a fangirl on vacation is so liberating. I've been assured multiple times by the husband that he and the Emperor are doing fine, so I'm attempting to quash the guilt of abandoning my parental post and enjoy this tourist abroad thing to the fullest extent.

I've taken goofy pictures out of car windows, snapped the required shot of McKay Avenue outside the hotel, and asked newbie questions about the money. Hello, Canada!

I saw David Nykl and Patrick Currie last night, both of whom were very charming and funny. I missed taking shots of the latter, but did get some great ones of Nykl.

Pics here! )

I'm skipping Alex Zahara (bad fangirl!), and lounging until it's time for Andee Frizzell, and later on Kavan Smith. I have to ration out the quiet, as tomorrow is going to be a busy day.

My brain has left the building, so I thought I'd ask some nosy questions of you all. Everybody likes a poll, right?

This way to the poll! )

Hey, anyone want to get up close and personal with William Shatner? By which I mean sit in the second row at the Wizard World Chicago Comic Con tomorrow. There will be a bunch of righteous guests there; the onstage stars include James Marsters, Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn, Avery Brooks, Adam West & Burt Ward, Brent Spiner, John De Lancie, four out of the final five BSG Cylons, Walter Koenig, and that Shatner fellow. Three of us were supposed to go, but one had to cancel due to a death in the family, so we've got an extra reserved seat and admission ticket. They'd normally go for $110 total, but we're desperate to get rid of them, so name your price. Lemme know by tomorrow morning or something if you're interested.

Seeing as it's a Comic Con, there will also be a ton of comic creators there. This necessitated my digging through my comic book archives to emerge triumphant with numbers 1-2 (original issues, mind you) of "The Crow" to be signed by J. O'Barr, "Elektra Assassin" and a few "New Mutants" for Bill Sienkiewicz, and Sandman #40 for Jill Thompson. With all the crap I had piled on top, and with the dog attempting to hide under my feet from the thunderstorms, it took an hour. But still...go me! I'm pondering getting Linda Hamilton to sign a "Beauty and the Beast" comic book as well.

I'll also have a SGA cast photo for Paul McGillion to sign - Stargate represent! I'm still disappointed that Patrick Stewart had to cancel - three Captains, one stage! - but I think I'll get over it.

The last time I went to the Chicago Comic Con was when I was 7 months pregnant with the Emperor. I did it as a day trip, up and back from Champaign to Rosemont - I can't imagine doing that now. (Well, technically we are, but I'm neither driving nor pregnant this time, so we're all good.) Joss Whedon was presenting a clip from his Big Damn Movie, and Amber Benson was appearing as well. I coincidentally met up with [livejournal.com profile] michaeldthomas and [livejournal.com profile] rarelylynne after we'd lost touch for years, so it was a fortuitous gathering all around. (Amber Benson liked my Cure T-shirt! *swoon*)

Now to bed, and early rising. Woo-hoo!

...and the sadness has set in. Yup, the Farscape gathering in LA has been and gone, and I had an absolutely fabulous weekend, but I now have a long, bleak stretch of time with no cons in it. Plus, I am BEYOND tired from an over-full weekend. Waking up this morning with a full-on dermal allergic reaction (swollen hands, rashy arms and legs) of unknown origins and the ensuing dosing of Benedryl has not helped matters at all. (I'm blaming the hotel room, but not its occupants - I have nothing but gleeful thanks for my patient roommates [personal profile] nakedwesley, [personal profile] vecturist, and [personal profile] pavaneofstars. I had a blast hanging out with you ladies, and I hope to do so again.)

I have every intention of posting an actual wrap-up (though my history of following through with such is abysmal), but I thought I'd share some highlights with you.

Scapers ROCK. )

My vid rolled! (Without me, though. *sniff* )

Happiest filling EVER. )

GUH. I get to go home soon, thank Zod. For all my post-con letdown, I am so happy to be with my family (and my very own bed) again.

*THUD*

...was the sound I made falling into bed last night. It was a whirlwind weekend of weirdness, coming after the personally devastating news that "Stargate: Atlantis" was canceled after this season, and the highs and lows of attending a CretinCreation con for Stargate. On my continual evaluation of "How much do I not want to go to work today?", it ranks about a 5. If I think about how much LJ catchup I need to do, it shoots up to an 7 or 8. Then there's the fact that I haven't gotten to see "The Shrine" yet (DO NOT JUDGE! I was BUSY! And if you maliciously spoil me, I WILL CUT YOU.), which, hey look, I'm at a 8.5! (It would have been a 9.0, but the Australian gymnastics judge lowballed me.)

Blah blah wah wah I'm the anti-demographic )

If I had any kind of honor-among-fans, I'd stop watching T:TSCC, Chuck, Reaper, and Pushing Daisies, and not even pick up Dollhouse, Caprica, or the other newcomers that sound interesting, in order to spare you all the same fate. But no, I'm going to be clinging to them as my remaining lifelines.

But enough about my recurring pain...I went to the Stargate Creation Con in Chicagoland this weekend, saw a lot of familiar faces, uncharacteristically chatted up lots of people in line, met some wonderful SG stars, refrained from swooning at Ben Browder's feet by strength of will, took copious panel notes, and pushed my friend C into capturing lots of vids and pics, which I'll be posting over the next indefinite amount of time.

The question is, which recap should I post first? Hey, I know, I'll do a poll! (It's my first. *blushes*)

This way to the clickies )
But wait, there's footnotes, too! )

Since everyone else has been posting about their weird and vivid dreams…

Right before waking up this morning, I had a dream about some WB-type live event, where they brought out stars from several shows for an impromptu cabaret. I wish I could remember all the people onstage, because it was a varied bunch of talents and performances, to say the least. For instance, one act was singing along with a large pink chenille mechanical elephant (a remnant from “Moulin Rouge”, maybe?). The last part I only remember because it happened right before I woke up; Alan Tudyk (Wash from “Firefly”), Jason Momoa (Ronon from “Stargate: Atlantis”), and Jared Padalecki (Sam on “Supernatural”, which I don’t even WATCH, dammit, but I hear all about from my flist) are standing together with harmonicas of different sizes. They start to tune them up (don’t ask me why harmonicas need tuning), and Alan, wielding the smallest one (it’s like two inches long), pulls out a black crayon, tosses it away, then pulls out a yellow crayon (!) to help him play. The crowd goes wild. Then we cut to a behind-the-scenes, pre-filmed shot with Jared, who has been tasked with creating the song for the group. He relates that he procrastinated enough in writing it that he had to go download something off the internet. We then flash back to the guys on stage, only the stage has been changed to something out of a disco (mirror ball and everything), and the guys, formerly dressed in street clothes, are now in sparkly purple shirts and tight black pants, playing their hearts out.

Then I woke up, and couldn’t decide whether to laugh at my subconscious or cry that I didn’t get to see what happened next. I mean, what the hell? How many fandoms can I fit into one dream sequence?
