It's here, at long last - my Hamilton week! I'm flying out to New York tomorrow and arriving about 5 PM, meeting up with [personal profile] heresluck and her friend for lunch on Wednesday and then seeing the "Hamilton" matinee, and then flying back home Thursday morning. (My visit was supposed to be a bit longer, but the airline changed my return flight to leave earlier, alas.) I am intending on visiting the Trinity Cemetery to see the Hamilton-related memorials, but other than that I have no firm goals. Maybe hit up Stub Hub for Wednesday night tickets? If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

I am trying not to have my usual travel freakout, but I still haven't packed yet. Being there less than 48 hours will hopefully lighten my load and my stress level.

We hosted the in-laws and my family for Easter yesterday, and it went off more smoothly than I could have hoped for; everything was delicious, everyone seemed happy, and no one brought up politics where I could hear. (My brother is a Fox News kind of guy, whereas my dad and I are crunchy liberals; things can get heated.) I took today off work for my birthday and travel prep, thankfully, because after everyone left yesterday I was too sore to do all the cleanup, so the leisurely pace has been wonderful. Bless my husband for doing an initial triage last night and running the dishwasher; it made round two of cleanup much easier.

The Emperor returns to school tomorrow after being off for Spring Break for the last week and a half; my lucky husband will have to deal with the inevitable homework grumbles until I get back.

HAMILTON!

The Vancouver con was fun! It wasn't the concentrated giddiness of the Minneapolis con, but neither was it the introverted loneliness of pre-fangirl, Hewlett Harem, con attendance.

Highlights:

So many good things! )

However, getting there (and back) was decidedly NOT half the fun. So many bad things )

One of these days, I will attend a con, and there will be NO DRAMA. At least the Emperor and the dog got fed in my absence, and school was attended. They both missed me a lot, which warmed my heart.

I am still gobsmackingly tired. It did not help when I stepped into an online discussion today, trying to point out the insulting nature of "a little bit pregnant" and how pregnancy is not a binary condition, to counteract a whole lot of mansplaining. I thought I was done with crying at work. *sigh*

Next up: my vid!

Seriously. When I've had nightmares about traveling, I dream about forgetting to pack swimsuits for the beach or arriving sans luggage entirely. I never thought to worry about my freaking CAR being STOLEN, my camera disappearing from a restaurant booth, and misplacing my driver's license somewhere between the airport and home.

It was the worst of times, it was the best of times... )

So yeah, I just about need a vacation to recover from my vacation. Is it August yet? I require some more David Hewlett.

Hot. DAMN. I turned in the last of my challenge entries a whole 10 minutes before the cutoff. I am FREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! About 18,000 words between the three stories later, and I am sure of one thing: I will never, ever sign up for three challenges due within 2 weeks of each other ever again. Please remind me of this if I somehow forget.

Now I can catch up on the 1200 or so entries I'm behind in my flist. Hey, I'm on vacation for the next week -- well, I may be home from work, but seeing as the Emperor is going to be off from daycare for all but two of those days, I really only get two days of vacation. *sigh* I'm still grumpy about having to pay for all the days his school is closed. (Also grumpifying: being three for three with major holidays and my period showing up. Grrr....)

But anyway - hi! If you've posted something remarkable in the past couple of weeks and have been wondering why I didn't respond...I've been crazy busy. Sorry!

Hope you all had a very Merry December holiday of your choosing, and a very happy New Year's to come!

(Now pardon me whilst I go wibble off somewhere and try to regrow my brain.)

Greetings to friends old and new, especially my Shore Leave peeps!

I made it back to Richmond in excellent time. There was one egregious gaper's block right around DC (ooo! Bright shiny lights! Must slow down to gawk!), but that only took 20 minutes or so to clear up. Since my arrival, I have been most excellently fed and allowed to babble on. Luckily, my hosting friends are Firefly fans, so at least the Jewel Staite stories had some relevance.

I haven't even tried to see how backed up my flist is at this point; I'm guessing it's going to be a matter of several weeks to straighten it all out.

So anyway, feel free to tell me the important news I may have missed since Wednesday night. Oh, and Shore Leavers? If you're reading this, I'm hoping to get at least a sampling of stuff up tomorrow night when I'm back home, but in the meantime, if you want to leave a note here, that would be awesomestupendous, as I've got a bad case of swiss cheese brain, the holes of which most of your names have slipped through. (Obviously, I'll never forget my roomies! And the friending helped, too. *grin*)

Man, I am so tempted to take Tuesday off as well, just to recover. Perhaps I should start practicing my fake sick cough now. *coff*coff* Hm.

G'night, everybody!
