So [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl was posting her responses to a random 5 things request, and to my prompt of "Five jobs Helo would have in an AU", she listed one as "Police Officer".

I'm reading Terry Pratchett's "The Fifth Elephant" right now.

My brain mashed up the two and came out with: BSG done as a Discworld AU. Specifically, the City Watch.

Vimes = Admiral Adama
Carrot = Helo
Angua = Athena
Colon = Colonel Tigh
Sybil = Roslin (at least the early, not-politically-savvy version)
Vetinari = Baltar, or possibly Romo Lampkin.

I'd have to let my brain spin a while for how to slot in the Cylons (I'm leaning towards the various baddies in Uberwald), Starbuck (one of the younger Lancre witches?), Apollo (tempted to cast him as a dwarf, because *hurr*hurr* Jamie Bamber is on the shorter side), Chief Tyrol (a wizard?)...dear god, BSG has a lot of characters.

What say you all?

ETA: The husband liked this game, too, and we came up with more, in addition to or in place of [livejournal.com profile] samwize's suggestions below.

Verence II = Apollo
Magrat = Dualla
Shawn Ogg = Billy
Agnes/Perdita = Boomer (with a head!Boomer)
Cheery Littlebottom = Racetrack
Mrs. Rosie Palm = Tory
Nobby = Hotdog
Granny Weatherwax = Elosha (shame about the dying thing)
Mrs. Cake = Deanna Biers (Three)
Jason Ogg = Sam Anders

Last night at dinner, the Emperor announced that he had to visit the bathroom. (Liberally translated from Emperor-speak, of course.) He was in there a while, during which we were treated to various babblings and streams of consciousness, rather like Boo in "Monsters Inc.". He slayed us, though, when he busted out with "Can you feel the love tonight?" from "Lion King", perfectly on key. My little goober...

I've been aware for quite some time that Neil Patrick Harris is quite a talented, attractive, and intelligent guy. Then came this article in "Out", and oof. Damn. The man is savvy and poised and a vision in leather pants. *dreamy sigh*

We live in a world of amazing technological marvels. Why, then, can no one invent a tampon that is easy to insert, comfortable to wear, and comes with a non-absorbent string? (And before you rush to present alternatives to tampons themselves, believe me, I've tried them. Diva-type cups don't stay in well, pads are Right Out, and being on the Pill didn't lessen the flow much at all.) Seriously, people -- get to work.

My attention span is completely shot for this project at work. It's dragged on about three times as long as necessary because I just can't bring myself to concentrate. I think the problem is that testing it is going to be a bitch-and-a-half, and I just don't want to go there. DO NOT WANT.

You know what I do want? Mary Poppins to visit and help us spoonful some sugar at the garden and the house, so I can stop wincing at the view. I'd stand around snapping and everything.

Appeasement

This goes in the list of things my mental vidder would love to do:

"Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson, an "All my Fandoms" vid. Gods, who wouldn't I put in it? La Femme Nikita, Farscape, Jake 2.0, John Doe, SG-1, SGA, BSG, T:TSCC, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dark Angel, Pushing Daisies, Highlander, Forever Knight, B5, ST:DS9, Veronica Mars, Heroes, Kindred: The Embraced...and that's just the TV shows with sci-fi/fantastical overtones. Any obvious oversights? (Note: I don't watch Smallville or Supernatural, and I'm trying to forget that I once liked Charmed. Birds of Prey is Right Out [Damn you, Dina Meyer!].) ETA: Of course, how could I forget Doctor Who, Alias, X-Files, and Twin Peaks?

"Black Tongue" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, for "Veronica Mars". "Boy you're just a stupid bitch and girl you're just a no-good dick."

I picked up the new TMBG DVD/CD offering today, "Here Come the 123s". The Emperor's seen a couple of previews from the podcasts already. We went over to [livejournal.com profile] the_sween and [livejournal.com profile] hecateuse for a massive ham dinner (still full!), and the DVD was viewed on their projector screen. He was enthralled. It was awesome.

Driving along while running errands today, I heard a horrible remix of Bjork's "Big Time Sensuality". I don't know how they could make such an upbeat, danceable song sound flat and mechanical, but they did, to a generic techno beat. *blech* However, it poked me that the original would make an excellent Vala vid. (The brain, it does not stop.)

My son, the frighteningly smart, tool-using monkey, was downstairs while I was upstairs getting some clothes for him. The phone rang, and it was a friend telling me about the Borders weekend coupon. I kept hearing a kid's voice, but I thought it was on her end, until she said "Hi, [Emperor]!" The little rascal had picked up the cordless and pressed the correct button to listen in, a button that looks pretty similar to those surrounding it.

Things like that just hammer home how doomed we are.
