Extended weekend remix

I've been home the past four days, both on behalf of the Emperor and his "This isn't for Easter, no siree" long weekend, and because I needed to burn off some PTO before it evaporates at the end of the month. As always, I had such lofty goals of things I wanted to accomplish, but it's a lot easier to imagine things done than taking the actual time and energy to complete them.
At the very least, I have been cooking like a fiend. I made the Emperor's favorite breakfast of pancakes and bacon Friday morning. The Emperor requested and received tacos for dinner Saturday. The husband was on call for work on Easter, so we declined the invites from both sides of the family and planned a meal. I got a small ham from the university meat store and baked it with a honey-maple glaze, and accompanied it with cheesy hash potatoes and spanakopita casserole. I spent several hours this morning cleaning up the kitchen from all that, including a wipedown and rearrangement of the fridge to accommodate the influx of food. Then I roasted some Brussels sprouts and asparagus, and currently have some Thai peanut chicken in the crockpot. I'm a little tired right now, but I should be all set for lunches for a while.
I spent some time outside, too, cleaning out the 5x10 garden bed around our curbside mailbox. The matted remains of irises and peonies from the fall held on to a landscape waste bag's worth of leaves and such, with the new growth sprouting up rapidly now that the spring weather has stuck around for more than a day. The fresh greenery looks about six inches taller with all the dead stuff gone, and the residual relief of knowing that task is behind me will be reinforced every time I pull in and out of the driveway. Spring brings my favorite flowers: the aforementioned irises and peonies, as well as tulips, daffodils, and my favorite, lillies-of-the-vally.
Another chore that's been on my to-do list for ages, but was finally crossed off, is cleaning out the closet and under the sink in my bathroom. I'm a victim of the "can't find it, buy another one" clutter monster, as well as a bad hoarding problem, so things were getting pretty drastic. I gave myself permission to throw out bottles that had only a portion or two left of product, removed expired medications from their packaging for responsible disposal at a nearby pharmacy, and combined like stuff into easier groups for retrieval. I don't think I'll need to purchase another bath gel in my life, and the amount of makeup I retrieved from various nooks and crannies is downright embarrassing, considering how rarely I wear the stuff. Especially wince-worthy was the full box of soft contacts I had to trash, seeing as they expired a decade ago. But now everything fits, with no surprising kamikaze dives from cram-jammed bottles when the doors are opened.
Next up is organizing the sheets in the linen closet, then tackling the rest of the junk in my bedroom. I also still need to purge the Emperor's room, because he insists on getting bigger without extending the same courtesy to his clothes. Spending the school year in uniforms and his weekends mainly in PJs means a large swathe of his closet hasn't been touched in a long time, so I have to make sure what's in there fits when summer camp comes around. Plus cleaning the basement so I can set up the treadmill down there, and tidying the loft that is currently the dumping ground for the Emperor's lesser-used toys.
At some point soon I also need to start some seeds indoors, though it's probably not worth it considering the last frost date is estimated to be sometime this week or next.
I had an ambitious idea for a Club Vivid vid, but considering I have all of 30 seconds on the timeline, a ton of unreviewed sources, and a due date of Friday, I may have to give myself a pass on that one, alas.
But Spring is here, and food is cooked, and I have only three days in my work week before I'm off again to use up some more PTO. I hope you all have a delightful week yourselves.
