I am so tickled by the responses to my poll. (Apologies to the LJers for having it only available on DW.) I appreciate that people answered my nosy questions, as I love seeing who's reading, and getting an idea of what's going on in your lives, fannish and elsewise.

I find it funny that the only fandom listed that didn't get any love was "La Femme Nikita". Even "Phineas and Ferb" got some responses! (Who's with me in shipping Ferb/Vanessa?) Also, you all know me too well, in that "You left a bunch of entries off this list, didn't you?" got a ton of clicks. Considering that I've spent a HYOOGE portion of my life watching TV and movies...yeah, that could have been a perilously long list.

As for the questions posed:

Me: Shouldn't you be working now?

Yes. Yes I should. But my brain is evidently on Spring Break with the Emperor. *jealous*

[personal profile] kate: WHY ARE YOU NOT WATCHING LEVERAGE OMG.

I want to! I want to really badly! I think that will be something I pick up over the summer, and maybe some "Burn Notice" as well.

[personal profile] kazbaby: How are you so awesome? :D

Frequent exposure to all of you guys, of course. (And David Hewlett!) ;)

[personal profile] highlander_ii: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop?

If you're the Emperor, AKA my goofball son, it takes at least 3-4 iterations of pulling it out of one's mouth, regarding its shrinking size, and asking one's mother, "Can I crunch it yet?" That doesn't even take into account if he's putting all his attention to sucking or is distracted by shiny things.

[personal profile] sam_gamgee: Are you coming to Shore Leave this year?

I intend on coming back to Shore Leave one of these years, but my summer is already ridonkulously booked up, with Vancouver in less than a month (WHEEEEEE), Vividcon (WAHOOOOOO) and the Chicago Creation con (YESSSSS) in August, as well as various weddings, reunions (20 years since HS graduation? EEP!), and family stuff. Say hi to Tricia Helfer for me!

[personal profile] nakedwesley: Whatever happened with the whole stolen van thing?

Well, it was recovered, reeking of smoke and with a ton of crap inside, including lots of interesting evidence we found on a Saturday evening that we turned over to the police the following Monday morning. The police proceeded to bitch us out for the delay, which just about blew my mind. The damned van was in police custody for almost a week; it was not our fault that their Southern IL cohorts couldn't be bothered to look. I figured at that point the chain of evidence had been broken and the asshole(s) responsible were long gone, anyway, so what did it matter? But since then, we haven't heard a damned thing, and trust me, the van has been parked in the garage every night since.

[personal profile] elderwitty: What book or series could you reread limitless times and enjoy every time?

I used to read David Eddings' Belgariad and Mallorean series at least once a year when I was younger, but nowadays I just don't reread as much as I used to. I'd say the one that I enjoy the most going back to (usually the previous 2-3 books to prep for the latest released volume) is Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. Now that I'm almost done with it (*sob*), I may add Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga to the list.

[personal profile] cee_m: SUPERNATURAL... just sayin'

The boys are very pretty, I know, but they don't seem to treat their female cast that well. Plus, you really don't want my TV curse brought to bear on a show you love. I'm already on thin ice with all my favorites.

Happy Friday, everybody!

My brain has left the building, so I thought I'd ask some nosy questions of you all. Everybody likes a poll, right?

This way to the poll! )

Or, Advice sought from all-knowing flist

I like Farscape. Shocker, I know. )

Why is this relevant?

Shore Leave + Chicago Stargate con = $$$ )

Farscape fans are dirty rotten pushers )

I did my best to squash any thoughts of regret, though. I’d had my two cons. I was done. The household budget had been strained enough for my whims.

Then…then came the last couple of weeks. The husband started working again full-time (Angels sang! Rainbows sparkled! A chorus of Hallelujahs abounded!), and we had hope again for being financially solvent. And then we got a letter and check from a family member who was sharing the wealth. A big check. A Significant Amount of Moolah check.

And a little, quiet voice of (burbank. *sigh*) instantly turned into a tantrum wail of "I WANNA GO TO THE FARSCAPE PARTY IN BURBANK!".

I am so frelling torn.

I'm not easy, but I'm certainly cheap. OK, maybe I am easy. )

Picture John Crichton on one shoulder and Scorpius on the other )

I need help (well, that’s a constant and a given). I need advice. What do you think, flist: do I sigh regretfully and sock the money away, being nobly practical about it all, or do I give flight to my fangirl dreams and blow a lot of money on my sparkly Farscape party?

Da poll! Da poll! )

I know how absolutely ridiculous this is, believe me. Of all the First World problems to have, this is small and petty and stupid to even consider. But…but…it is what it is: something about which I am well and truly torn.

ETA: OK, there's SUPPOSED to be a poll. There's a poll code and everything. WTF, poll?

ETA2: OK, so the husband is pointing out that I could get a new computer for the money. DAMMIT. I didn't need the water to be muddier...

...was the sound I made falling into bed last night. It was a whirlwind weekend of weirdness, coming after the personally devastating news that "Stargate: Atlantis" was canceled after this season, and the highs and lows of attending a CretinCreation con for Stargate. On my continual evaluation of "How much do I not want to go to work today?", it ranks about a 5. If I think about how much LJ catchup I need to do, it shoots up to an 7 or 8. Then there's the fact that I haven't gotten to see "The Shrine" yet (DO NOT JUDGE! I was BUSY! And if you maliciously spoil me, I WILL CUT YOU.), which, hey look, I'm at a 8.5! (It would have been a 9.0, but the Australian gymnastics judge lowballed me.)

Blah blah wah wah I'm the anti-demographic )

If I had any kind of honor-among-fans, I'd stop watching T:TSCC, Chuck, Reaper, and Pushing Daisies, and not even pick up Dollhouse, Caprica, or the other newcomers that sound interesting, in order to spare you all the same fate. But no, I'm going to be clinging to them as my remaining lifelines.

But enough about my recurring pain...I went to the Stargate Creation Con in Chicagoland this weekend, saw a lot of familiar faces, uncharacteristically chatted up lots of people in line, met some wonderful SG stars, refrained from swooning at Ben Browder's feet by strength of will, took copious panel notes, and pushed my friend C into capturing lots of vids and pics, which I'll be posting over the next indefinite amount of time.

The question is, which recap should I post first? Hey, I know, I'll do a poll! (It's my first. *blushes*)

This way to the clickies )
But wait, there's footnotes, too! )
