I have stayed up stupid late once more, but this time with a purpose: I have mapped out garage sales for tomorrow morning, so now I can head out in the morning and hit most of them when they're still going strong, instead of compiling the list in the morning and hitting the road when most of them are closing.

I love garage sales: the prices, the variety, the random weirdnesses. Sometimes I get to rescue old D&D books. Other times I pick up kitchen gadget parts to replace stuff that's broken. I've outfitted the Emperor mainly through used clothes.

Also with the stupid lateness, I've refreshed my MP3 player with the recent Night Vale episodes and Alton Browncasts. I'll let it charge through the night so it can play in the car all day tomorrow.

Other things on the to-do list for this weekend:
Hit the semi-annual consignment sale for toys and uniform pieces for the Emperor
Weed the front garden beds
Process the tomatoes sitting patiently on my counter
Clean up my room (somewhere my mom is laughing and she doesn't even know why)
Take the Emperor on a whirlwind trip through the seasonal Halloween shops to assemble his Adventure Time Lich costume
Take the Emperor to the library to refresh his stash of Garfield books
Visit the craft stores for other parts of his costume
Organize the basement to make room for the treadmill
Pay bills, file paperwork

And with that, I should get my ass to bed. Good night, Interwebs. Good night. ;)

For as much as today was trying really hard to be Monday, part 2, it did turn out much better than I expected.

An online misunderstanding got resolved, which lightened my mood considerably. Then my boss and I discussed periods and parenting, and briefly my project queue. I love bonding with her.

The husband had a stellar first day at work; he came home energized and feeling like he can really make a difference there. It's a relief and a joy to see him excited about going to work.

The Emperor made his goal at school today and wrote down his assignments in his binder, so he got his privileges and wound up watching "Agents of SHIELD" with me. I had to explain a couple of times which were the good guys vs. bad guys, but I think he enjoyed it almost as much as I did. Bonding with my son over geek TV: PRICELESS.

As a weird-but-good cherry topper on the evening, a visitor noticed the D&D manuals I picked up over the weekend at a garage sale, and mentioned excitedly that the D&D 1st edition of Deities and Demigods was probably worth quite a lot of money, as the sections on Cthulu and Melnibonéan were removed in later editions due to copyright violations.

My heart is considerably lighter than it was at the start of the day; I like ending well.

It should stop surprising me at some point that it takes me a while to recover from a con weekend, though this past week has been a lot more of a physical slog and almost no mental rebound. In previous years, I would be so socially burned out (me, an introvert? oh, yeah) that I'd have a hard time talking to anyone on LJ or DW for days or weeks. This go-around, I've just been tired all the damned time. To be fair, I'm not adjusting well to the new household schedule, which involves getting the Emperor to school an hour earlier than last year. *yawn* It seems on the surface so easy to adjust my bedtime, but that involves retraining my brain to recognize that 10:30 PM is no longer "I've still got time" but "get to bed, geesh!"

Which means that my usual weekend night owl tendencies may slip away as well - being this exhausted at this hour on a Saturday just seems wrong. However, the discovery in my fridge of the last bit of homemade chocolate frosting, combined with raspberries from my garden, have made that realization a little bit easier to swallow. :)

I did have a great time this morning wandering around a huge annual garage sale with a friend of mine. A local YMCA collects items left behind when the university students depart for the summer and combines them with other donations for a Dump and Run sale. I got some crutches (if no one in the family ever has to use crutches again as ironic retribution, it will be money very well spent), a corkscrew for next year's traveling wine, a bunch of books, and a few other various and sundry pieces.

Tomorrow, though, I must buckle down. The house is starting to approach cartoonish levels of cluttered/dirty. This Will Not Do. I think listening some episodes of Night Vale might help me with the chores.

I hope you all are having a lovely weekend. Remember to stay out of the Night Vale Dog Park!
