*yawn*

One of my worst habits is staying up super late on the weekends, because that's when I can have gloriously long stretches of time to watch whatever I want on TV, once the Emperor has gone to bed (and I can take shameless advantage of his ability to amuse himself in the morning while I sleep in). Tonight I got an even later start than usual, as this afternoon we were over at the in-laws' farm to hang out with the family and particularly the husband's oldest sister before she jets back to the West Coast.

We got home at 10:30 and poured the Emperor into bed, then I settled down to polish off the last few episodes of the first season of "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" on Netflix. Alas that they don't have season 2, so I will have to go *ahem*ing to procure them, along with the newest Doctor Who.

Two more days of vacation, wahoooo!

I get into vicious cycles sometimes, where I go to bed too late and wake up tired, then fall into a zombie lull of "One more thing"s at night that gets me to bed too late, and so on. For the most part, I manage to catch up on the weekends, but man, it's hell during the week. And it's all my fault! Self, why you gotta be so mean?

Work is being so weird. Learning curve or uphill battle? )

I should fill in the extra hours with training, but all my tired brain wants to do is read fic and interesting links.

Say, for example:

What if "Doctor Who" had English actresses in the lead role for the run of the series? Check out this list for some interesting suggestions.

Or if TPTB had used American actors? Fascinating choices here.

But seriously, why did no one mention that Mayim Bialik, she of the amazing "Blossom" and Amy Farrah Fowler on TBBT, has her own blog on the Jewish parenting site Kveller? First off, she's a talented writer, which in my mind puts her up for polymath-dom, considering she's also a talented actor and has a PhD in neuroscience. She's a published author on attachment parenting. She's a self-proclaimed "tomboy/feminist" who has never shaved her legs. She's a proponent of homebirths. She objects to Disney's princess culture (which is a bit easier for her to do, considering she has two sons). She is deeply, devoutly involved in what she refers to as "Modern Orthodox Judaism". For juggling all that, she is my hero.

I'm looking forward to working from home tomorrow, though considering it's because the Emperor is off from school, it may veer wildly from working to "working", AKA "Please stop bugging me for [X]!" Hope you all have a lovely Friday!

No, I'm not at all avoiding working on this intensely boring test plan. Why do you ask?

I have no idea who decided that non-fuzzy bear versions (Bearbrick? Sounds like a cutesy version of bareback to me.) of Kirk and Uhura were necessary, but here they are:

Can't spell bears without ears )

If you can explain this to me, please do.

This planned version of a vinyl figurine of David Tennant's Doctor Who seems to place great emphasis on his, ah, groinal region:

It's the pelvic thrust that really drives them insane )

Between the framing of the area with his unbuttoned suit jacket, and the dark lining of the coat pointing like an up arrow and the bottom triangle of the bright red tie pointing right down, the figure would seem to be smirking "The sonic screwdriver is my penis." Big Chief's conditional warning that Note: actual product may vary from shown. Pending licensor approval. means it's not final, of course, but I'm actually kind of fascinated with the product as it is.

In other news, who knew Almanzo Wilder was such a hottie? Good going, Laura!

A little bit Hemsworth of a Farmer Boy, maybe? )

*sigh* Damn. That test plan didn't magically finish itself. Guess I should actually do some work.

One of the features that I positively adore about Firefox 3.0 is the "Save open tabs when you close" option. Before, if I had a bunch of tabs dangling at quitting time, I had to bookmark them all and get back to them later. Now, I just shut down and they pop up again the next time I start Firefox. Fabulous.

So, here are some of the tabs I've had open that I wanted to pass along:

From everybody: Mighty God King posts re-titled sci-fi and fantasy epics from his adolescence, part one and part two. I can't decide which is scarier: that I've read most of these and can recognize them all, or that even as I'm giggling at the snark, I'd still go back and read several of them again. But only a few of them, as it's startling how much fanfic has spoiled me for good writing, characterization, and skill.

ETA: Oops. It appears he's gotten overloaded and/or suspended. Well, check back later.

Speaking of good fanfic, [livejournal.com profile] seperis recommended this phenomenal piece by [livejournal.com profile] dsudis, Get Loved, Make More, Try to Stay Alive . It's a Torchwood story, Jack/Ianto. With mpreg. (For those of you who have no idea what that is, it's short for male pregnancy.) Now, before you recoil in horror, it's only 19% mpreg (claims the author), and it's actually feasible. But beyond that, it's an incredible love story, with time traveling and tech and dead-on representations of Torchwood and Doctor Who characters. It's long and wonderful and I felt sad at the end that there wasn't more to read, because it's an astounding piece of work.

Oh, and today's a Woot-off, too. Anyone snag a BoC yet?

Happy Wednesday!
