Heh. Lots of things bouncing around in this here grey matter.
I want many of these T-shirts, especially the aliens and the Pyramids, and the Discworld one, and...

14valentines entry here listed a bunch of Faith (from "Buffy") and Dean (from "Supernatural") fics and vids, and sweet holy bejeebus, do I have a new kink. Hot like hellfire doesn't begin to describe it. Where have I been all these years? Following (as I do) down the rabbit hole (or rather, link to link to link), I stumbled across Wildcat as well, which is Dean/Sam/F (where I'm pretty sure I've spoiled who F is), and WHOA NELLY. Major distraction. (I don't even WATCH Supernatural, but c'mon. Jensen Ackles is too damned pretty to resist.)
For those of us who have been bad pet parents, Advantage is sponsoring an awesome deal where if you can score one of their online vouchers and then take your pet to the vet sometime between now and May 31st, they'll reimburse you up to $20. Warning: it took me several tries to get a voucher. I had to be ready to click right at the beginning of an hour, as their counter resets then.
miniglik is currently smitten with Legend of the Seeker, and based on her posts and the screencaps here, I am so, so tempted. But the books it's based on? Yeah, it's Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth, a series that I tried really hard to slog through, and I made it about four or five books in before I had to give up. Thus, I dither.
Eek! Quitting time. Later!
Oh, one more thing: my list of vid ideas is now at 100 entries. Anyone got a pocket dimension I can nip into for a year or so to get these out of my system, and return home without time having passed?

Date: 2009-02-25 11:20 pm (UTC)Ah, but it's t.v., so the weirdness and gratuitous violence is apparently glossed over, cleaned up, and made less weird. Or so people tell me. Let's put it this way: the books give the show subtext, but I think the medium filters out some of the bad stuff and makes it more good, cheesy fun. Of course, maybe you don't have issues with the same thing other people on my flist had trouble with in the books. Then... uh, I dunno. Still, try it! It's so fun. And there are so few fun genre shows left, you know? What if this was going to be your new genre show and you skipped it?
Here it is on Hulu: http://www.hulu.com/videos/search?query=Seeker
It couldn't hurt to start the pilot, right? (Here, take the candy, little girl.)
And I don't know if this helps or hurts, but this is really very true.

Also, think of it this way: what if Farscape came from a book series that spent way too much time describing Chiana's childhood abuse, D'Argo's weird sexual rituals and Scorpius's dealings with people like Natira? It could kind of suck in book form, but be awesome on the screen, with actors with chemistry, because the squicky author issues are kind of pulled out.
Also, an IM conversation between me and
MinnieGlick (12:44:06 PM): So, what did you think?
dimensia624 (12:47:18 PM): i hate you.
dimensia624 (12:47:20 PM): sooooo much.
MinnieGlick (12:47:33 PM): So that's a positive?
MinnieGlick (12:47:51 PM): It's like crack!
MinnieGlick (12:47:57 PM): Silly, cheesy crack!
MinnieGlick (12:49:29 PM): Actually, it may be like a disease
MinnieGlick (12:49:55 PM): Because almost everyone I know that's tried it got addicted, then spread it on to other people
dimensia624 (12:50:54 PM): it's got SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES
MinnieGlick (12:51:01 PM): Hee
MinnieGlick (12:51:05 PM): That's the only explanation?
dimensia624 (12:52:41 PM): what else can it be?!
dimensia624 (12:53:13 PM): behind all the rolling countryside and earnest cast and borderline bad effects
MinnieGlick (12:53:15 PM): Excellent casting and location?
MinnieGlick (12:53:22 PM): Hee
dimensia624 (12:53:30 PM): there are words blaring YOU WILL LOVE THIS SHOW
MinnieGlick (12:53:35 PM): Hee

MinnieGlick (12:54:18 PM): Hee
MinnieGlick (12:54:30 PM): And yet her hair doesn't looked over fixed up

Date: 2009-02-26 04:53 am (UTC)Sometimes I really am. I hope not liking the books doesn't affect your viewing. Not that that's the only reason one wouldn't like the show (it is rather silly), but I assume you know what I mean. You must let me know what you think of it, either way.
And from an earlier discussion: P got to watch 45 minutes of Star Wars tonight before bed. I tried and tried to get him to choose from the original trilogy. Alas, "I don't want 4, 5, or 6 tonight! I want 2!" *Mom sigh* (I let him watch it in our room and went upstairs, however.)
It's sad. However, it does speak to the point that the prequels are 5 yr old level "good."

Date: 2009-02-26 05:01 pm (UTC)I've kind of resigned myself, now that sci-fi and fantasy have been co-opted as blockbuster and TV material, that all the series I've read will eventually be harvested. I can't honestly expect that everything will be "Lord of the Rings"-level of AWESOME. In cases like "Dresden Files" (*kicks Sci-Fi channel AGAIN*), I enjoyed the TV series even though it diverged quite a bit from the source material (and those books are some of my favorites). "True Blood" hooked me, with the books being entertaining if not precisely great, and even with my irrational hatred of Anna Paquin.
Judging from how pretty it looks (and that TWoP thread was hysterical), I'll probably find LotS very entertaining, but with any luck I won't fall hopelessly in love with it, because that way lies "Pushing Daisies", and "Firefly", and "Veronica Mars", and so on.
And please keep on squeeing! With SGA's end, and people's fizzled enjoyment of SCC, I miss reading people's rants and raves about television they love/hate. I miss that enthusiasm so much it's got me following "Merlin", and tracking this down, too.
However, it does speak to the point that the prequels are 5 yr old level "good."
The damned problem in a nutshell. Keep the fart'n'poop jokes out of my Star Wars. I don't mind the gratuitous visual spectacles and light sabre fights (hell, I was clapping and yelling with everyone else), but the overabundance of slapstick was a slap in the face.

Date: 2009-02-26 12:07 am (UTC)And whoa! I'm spamming you!
I had a brief Sam/Faith phase. I searched out and read the only 5 or so fics of the sort I could find. Heh. I didn't even really like Faith, but she's good to put in fics with sexy boys.

Date: 2009-02-26 04:19 am (UTC)I've seen people make the comment that Faith is like the little black dress of fic - she goes well with anybody for any situation.
