I realize that I still owe Rockin' Socks entries for several people. I didn't forget, I was just...busy.

This past weekend was absolutely wonderful. The Emperor was unbelievably well-mannered; he's started to fetch the step stool when it's time to wash his hands, he hasn't protested going down for his nap or bedtime (well, other than an earnest "Stay, Mommy."), and he's stopped fighting quite so hard when it's time to change his diaper. ETA: Oh, and we had a lovely long visit with [profile] samwize, as well. (That came out a little bit afterthoughtish, didn't it? Sorry!) Much hanging out, discussing books and stoopid work and cool tech. I cooked multiple meals, even -- it's amazing how much time can be freed up when there's more hands on deck for the Emperor-watching.

Thanksgiving was a blast. We went to the in-laws, and even though we woke him up halfway through his nap to make it on time, the Emperor was still a joy. He got to see Grandpa's big machinery (combines and trucks!). Daddy even boosted him up to the cab, which got a big grin. While we consumed a yummy meal, he snacked, and then watched "Mary Poppins" on the portable DVD player so we could finish in peace. His rocking out to "Jolly Holiday" was an added bonus. Then we adjourned to the living room, so he could bounce around like a pinball from person to person, giggling the whole way. It was awesome.

It's such a relief to get a respite from the terrible twos. Even if he reverts into Mr. Stubborn Crankypants, this will still serve as a benchmark of how wonderful he can be.

Talked about the Emperor in class today. Somehow, don't ask me how, we got onto the topic of kids being addicted to certain movies. Apparently you should thank your lucky stars it's something as palatable as "Marry Poppins". One of my students has a nephew that is obsessed with the movie "Cars". Now that didn't sound bad to me at first, until she explained that his newest favourite thing is to HIDE toy cars EVERYWHERE so that he can have them to play with when he returns. So at least the Emperor isn't hiding chimney sweeps or penguins everywhere. ;}
