So there's a meme going around about kitchen appliances.

For those of you that haven't been in my kitchen - I am a shameful kitchen gadget addict. My cupboards are cram-jam full, though mostly organized, of things that I thought would be useful, and that I've used maybe once since I purchased them. At least most of them were acquired as gifts or at a discounted price, whether by markdowns or garage sales.

The saddest truth is, I enjoy cooking, but in order to do so I need a clean kitchen, time, and energy - a lack of Imperial interruptions is a bonus - but the confluence of those events is unfortunately rare. So my big, beautiful, well-stocked kitchen is mainly used to boil pasta, cook hot dogs, and nuke things in the microwave. *sigh*

Meme!

Bold the ones you have and use at least once a year, italicize the ones you have and don't use, strike through the ones you have had but got rid of.

I wonder how many pasta machines, breadmakers, juicers, blenders, deep fat fryers, egg boilers, melon ballers, sandwich makers, pastry brushes, cheese knives, electric woks, miniature salad spinners, griddle pans, jam funnels, meat thermometers, filleting knives, egg poachers, cake stands, garlic crushers, martini glasses, tea strainers, bamboo steamers, pizza stones, coffee grinders*, milk frothers, piping bags, banana stands, fluted pastry wheels, tagine dishes, conical strainers, rice cookers, steam cookers, pressure cookers, slow cookers, spaetzle makers, cookie presses, gravy strainers, double boilers (bains marie), sukiyaki stoves, ice cream makers, and fondue sets languish dustily at the back of the nation's cupboards.

*Two of them, one for coffee and one for spice grinding.

In addition, I have a yogurt cheese maker, mandolin, bean frencher, dehydrator, corn cob stripper, sausage grinder, apple peeler, mini food processor, large coffee maker (for guests), popcorn popper, waffle iron, meat tenderizer, and...well, the list goes on.

Hee hee hee! I totally have lots of stuff in my kitchen that I don't use, too. Though I might, if I didn't have a job. I'm not particularly good at cooking, but I'd sure like to practice until I was.

I so v. much want a cookie press! But I want one like my mom's - it's all electric and ancient and not made out of flimsy plastic!

I'd take an ice cream maker if someone gave me one. =) Not that I really have room for it, but I like making ice cream.

My mom's is this dinosaur of a thing and it takes about 3 cookies to get the rhythm... assuming you followed the directions and did *not* spray the pan w/ cooking spray! =)

wasting valuable time at work here... and with the caveat that while I bake for every birthday, Eric does 90% of the cooking.

We use:
pasta machines, juicers (citrus only), blenders, melon ballers, pastry brushes, griddle pans, jam funnels, meat thermometers,, martini glasses, tea strainers, pizza stones, coffee grinders*, piping bags, slow cookers (3 sizes!), gravy strainers, ice cream makers. Also two jezvas, waffle iron, stand mixer and food processor.

Have & don't use
breadmakers, deep fat fryers, cheese knives, fluted pastry wheels, pressure cookers

Don't have
egg boilers, sandwich makers, electric woks, miniature salad spinners, filleting knives, egg poachers, cake stands, garlic crushers, bamboo steamers, milk frothers, banana stands,, tagine dishes, conical strainers, rice cookers, steam cookers, spaetzle makers, cookie presses, double boilers (which we could use... we tend to put a steel bowl over a saucepan instead), sukiyaki stoves

My favorite baking cookbook is The Weekend Baker by Abigail Dodge. Recipes are split into Baker's Express, baking in stages, and productions, with recipes in both the last two telling you how to split it up if you won't have time to finish it all at once. I had brownies from scratch in the oven in 15 minutes with that book, and they were gobbled up at work despite being on a table full of other desserts. "Emergency Blender Cupcakes" is my favorite recipe title, though, I think.
