It feels good to have made it to Friday. Ahhhh...

No word from the police on anything car-theft related. I have reached a state of burnout when it comes to phone calls this week, so I'm putting off any followup until at least Monday. We'll see if they have anything to say. The husband replaced the front door deadbolt; now we are pondering getting the van re-keyed as well. All told, the fallout is minimal, for which I am very grateful.

I gave a required presentation on "Code Readability and Design" at work yesterday for which I put in a goodly amount of prep, and it seems to have paid off. Several people approached me afterward that they got something useful out of it, which is more than I was expecting. I even learned or reacquainted myself with a few key points. But best of all, it's DONE, and one more checkmark on my list of assignments to completed by my next review.

I have not burbled about the Emperor in far too long. He blows my mind on a regular basis, both physically, caught as he is in mid-morph between a toddler's pudge and a big boy's build, and mentally, as he's asking questions and making connections that seem really advanced, at least to this proud mom. In some ways, he's a savvy consumer of media, as he's constantly questioning (and sometimes assuring) me if a particular story on TV is fictional, or if that character is a good or bad guy. On the other hand, though, he is starting to get exposed to commercials for actual products, instead of just previews of other shows, and my poor little guy has no immunity to the Merch.

"Mom, I need to get a new mattress. I have back pain." (He's five. He could be passed out on a bed of rocks, and he still wouldn't get back pain.)

"Mom, my stomach hurts. I need that medicine to make the hurting go away."

"Mom, can we buy that cereal/yogurt/thing I just saw but have always needed?"

Then he made me and the husband laugh the other night when he pleaded that I needed to tape "Whale Wars", and proceeded to rattle off the spiel "Friday at 9, only on the Discovery Channel", in a pitch-perfect mimicry of the original. Or this morning, when he was singing a snippet of One Shoe Blues as close as he could to B.B. King's style.

His Lego fixation is still going strong - he reads the latest catalog at least once a day and dreams of the next set he'll buy with his allowance. He loves building both the sets with instructions and creations out of his own head. He couldn't wait for the Lego Star Wars T-shirt I bought for him to make it through the laundry. In short, a perfect little geek-off-the-old-block of his parents. *grin*

Now if only I could get him off his latest TV craze, the Thundercats. I had never realized when I was a kid just how warped that show is, and I find myself hard pressed not to giggle my head off at the more ridiculous bits. (Yes, of course that giant robot needed a large spike pointing downwards between its legs!) And let's not even start with the Sword of Omens that gets longer when he jabs it into the sky...

If I accomplish half the things that sound promising this weekend, I'll be doing great. Meijer is hosting a Toy Story party, Borders has a couple of excellent coupons for kids' toys and games and general merchandise, and Bath and Body Works has a couple of tempting offers as well. There's a local Brews, Blues, and BBQ going on with kid options, and I'd love for us to see "Toy Story 3" while it's in the theaters. Plus more gardening if the weather isn't gross, and the ongoing cleanup efforts in the house, and... Send in the clones, already!
