Note to 2008: Stop sucking. Immediately.

Has 2008 just sucked in general for anyone else? I'm struggling to stay on top of a couple of spectacularly cranky weeks, myself.
On the homefront...A couple of Fridays ago, the Emperor just could not get to sleep. He called me upstairs every hour to complain about his ears. Finally I convinced him to let me give him some Tylenol. The next morning, I took him to the pediatrics office; the nurse practioner confirmed that he had a double ear infection and prescribed him Zithromax. (It was his first ear infection since he got his tubes, almost two years ago. I didn't miss them. I kinda hoped they were done.) Then the husband got mad that I didn't push for a different antibiotic, as the doctor had warned us a long while back that Zithromax was at a 50% effectiveness for ear infections. I refrained from telling him to get up and go with us the next time. Saturday night wasn't as bad. Sunday morning, one of his ears had exploded and was dripping with goo. So, no daycare for two days and another trip to the doctor Monday morning, this time for antibiotic ear drops. $30 for a bottle about the size of my thumb. *Grrr*
Thursday I started feeling like crap, so I stayed home Friday (amidst the mini-blizzard) and went to the doc's myself. Diagnosis: Strep throat. Daycare was closed, so I didn't even get the luxury of sacking out on the couch all day. Then that night the Emperor complained about his ears again, and Saturday morning the other ear had exploded, this time with bloody goo. Back to the ped's office, this time to see his actual pediatrician. She prescribed him a sulfa antibiotic, 2 teaspoons, twice a day. The Emperor does not like medicine, and oral is the worst. Hates it, as a matter of fact. We're averaging two temper tantrums a day from giving him the eardrops and the pink goo.
Today the husband went to the doc; luckily, the quick prep tested negative for strep, but he has to call back in a couple of days for the slow test. Viral invader for sure, though.
5 doctor visits, 5 trips to the pharmacy. Everyone not feeling great.
Then there's the other stuff, like the death of one of my parents' friends, the death of a co-worker's stepson, the tease of snow then rain (I'm a petulant brat who doesn't think it's true winter unless there's snow on the ground - the husband is the one who clears the driveway), and rain rain rain, which means our roof is leaking and it's grey, miserable, cold and swampy outside. Plus, a really good friend who's had the pregnancy from Hell is in the hospital.
I want a do-over. Barring that, I want someone come play Mommy for me -- though not my actual mother. *shudder* I suppose I'd just settle for a break, something as simple as a day at home without having to chase the Emperor, so I could putter around and get things done.
To end on a bright note -- I won a goofy contest this weekend, a Chief Tyrol action figure signed by Aaron Douglas himself. It's like Fate is awkwardly flirting with me or something.
G'night everybody.

Date: 2008-02-06 01:56 pm (UTC)It's about the same here. We're all fighting colds. Caitlin was vomiting again last night from hers. The weather sucks. We should get about a foot of snow.

Date: 2008-02-06 02:58 pm (UTC)Sorry to hear the seasonal ick has visited your house as well.
Honestly, I would prefer snow over this rain. Snow doesn't make our roof leak.

Date: 2008-02-06 06:40 pm (UTC)The roof in the TV room has leaked for just about as long as we've had the house. It only leaks in heavy rain, though, which is why we've been dragging our feet to get it fixed; we really don't want to replace the whole roof, but roofers are cranky about partial jobs. We think it's a bad seal around the fake cupola, but judging by the diaspora of drips last night, who knows what else has fissured. *sigh*
