And the AWESOME keeps on coming

The Emperor has a long history of being a thrashing, screaming, flailing menace during haircuts. Evidently, the clipper's buzz is the scariest thing ever. Seeing as he was long overdue for a trim -- the boy's got a THICK head of hair -- I was going to take him in this weekend, but time got away from us. So the husband elected to do it yesterday in the afternoon, and to his surprise, our little man did a fabulous job. He was a little scared, but Daddy talked him into wearing a cape, using his new Buzz and Woody dolls as encouragement. There were a couple of lip quivers and some flinching, but that was the worst of it. Now's he's sporting a cool crewcut and looks much less shaggy. Daddy gets massive points for carrying it off, and a permanent job as Haircut Attendant.
As a reward, the Emperor got to pick dinner (pizza, of course) and go on his first carousel ride at the mall (after his glasses were adjusted again for the umpteen bazillionth time), which he absolutely loved. He was a little puzzled why I was standing outside the gate while Daddy rode with him, so much so that I got a round-'n'-round repeat of "Mommy, open the gate!". We switched off for the next ride, but Daddy didn't get the same treatment. I imagine that no mall trip from now on will be complete without a ride on the horses.
Every day the Emperor's interaction skills are getting sharper. It's like some switch was flipped in his head recently, and the neurons are firing at 300%. He insisted Sunday night that he could take off his own clothes and put on his PJs. (The former was much easier than the latter.) He also got mad at our standard hurry-up trick, where we ask him "Walk or carry?" and start counting from 1 to 3. He actually snapped "No more counting!" I was amused, though I know that will wear off quickly as the defiance continues. It's just so amazing to see him develop, y'know?

You know, a lot of people talk about the terrible twos and threes, but I actually think they're a lot of fun. They're brains make so many new connections every day.
For us, Son #1 is to the "slight flinching but no flailing" haircut stage. Son #2 must still be held down and fought. One day...
