...or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Festivids!

What a difference a year makes! Last time around I was fretting and miserable and so wrapped up in my head, comparing my work to everyone else's, that I couldn't sit back and enjoy the glorious outpouring of vids at Festivids reveal time.

This year, I again made two vids. The main assignment had me doubting myself up to the end - "Is this song overused? Did I express what I wanted to? Will the recipient like it? Will anyone else like it?" - but I made it through and was pretty proud of the result.

Then I looked at my list of "if I have time" treat ideas, which had at least five items, and decided to buckle down to do just one that spoke the loudest. It helped that I had the perfect song for it; the thing practically vidded itself, and the end result came out with the exact feeling I wanted. I had a little bit of stress trying to post them, as the first one got rejected by Vimeo and I didn't even try with the second. I found a solution that worked and got them submitted.

I was really glad I did a treat, because it made the wait for GoLive so much shorter. Both of my vids were really well received by their intended people, and I got lots of enthusiastic comments for them. Oh, the relief! As vain as it is, I keep visiting the posts to see new comments coming in, and each one makes me smile. One of them is super obvious (at least in my head), and one is less so, but still in my wheelhouse. If anybody can guess one or both of them, I'll try to think up some sort of prize for you. :)

It's shallow of me to admit it, but I think a big part of my better reaction this year is the quantity and quality of the comments, but also, I'm much happier with my vids this time around. I think and hope that I'm getting better as a vidder. That, or I chose more popular fandoms this year. Either way, I'm delighted with the results.

I've only made it through watching the smallest portion of the masterlist, but I intend to hit every one, even if I can't leave feedback on each.

Oh, and I would be totally remiss if I didn't mention the sweet "Anne of Green Gables" vid I received. It captures so much of what I loved about the movie series; I was in happy-sniffly tears by the end of it, being reminded of the amazing characters and the gorgeous scenery and all the wonderful ways they adapted the book, the biggest part being the casting of Megan Follows as Anne. I love the gentle, strummy song by James Taylor; paired with the visuals, it gives the feeling of a stroll through Avonlea. Some weekend, I'm going to have to sit down and watch the whole series again.

I love everyone in this vidding fandom! :)
