Dear Festividder (2012)
Oct. 8th, 2012 12:55 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
You are just about my favorite person in the world right now. I have been looking forward to Festivids all year, and now it's time to get my squee all over you! (Uh, sorry about that. Hope you brought a towel.)
I love vids, which, DUH, I know - who would sign up for Festivids if they didn't? I love all sorts of vids set to all sorts of music. I watch vids enough that my son has build up his own list of his favorites, based on what he's seen me watch. Vids have introduced me to new music and new fandoms. Vids are a happy place for me.
To narrow things down a bit: I'm open to almost any kind of music. I'm not a huge fan of country & western (though I have a weakness for really poppy C&W, like Shania Twain and The Dixie Chicks, and I adore bluegrass) or rap (I think it's a spoken-word comprehension thing and my lack thereof). If you think you've found the perfect song, though, go for it!
You may notice that a few of the entries below are repeats from last year. I have urges, dude! Unfulfilled urges, longings that linger through the... OK, that's getting a little weird.
To the requests!
American Gothic
The disturbing and unsettling tone of this show still stays with me. I'd love a vid that encapsulates the tension and dread of "Someone's at the door." Sure, the show didn't always make sense, but it left me with the shivers. And the visuals! So ominously gorgeous! The actors, so pretty! Ah, show. This one goes on the list of series killed by my TV curse - shows that I really enjoyed that got axed in two seasons or less, usually much less.
I would be thrilled with music that brings the creepy, from nursery rhymes to instrumental to gothic (heh) choirs.
Animaniacs Pinky & The Brain
This is a source that I associate with happy times, gathering with my friends in college to catch the show and laughing our asses off, seeing who could do the best impressions or quote the most. I adore the Brain's complicated schemes and Pinky's enthusiasm, and their friendship that endures. Anything would be a welcome gift.
Trust me, any kind of music would do. You could even just string together their dialogue and I would be happy.
Auntie Mame
This movie is from a different era, and it shows. Oh, the costumes, and the banter, and the "this a movie set that's pretending, but not too hard, to look real". And Rosalind Russell being amazing: charming, vivacious, outlandish, yet vulnerable. I love it so hard, and if you could make this vid that celebrates her and the movie, I would love you, too - more than I do already for making something for me.
Confession time: I would love, love, love if you could use Siouxsie and the Banshees' "Kiss Them for Me". Because I've always wanted a vid with that combination of source and music, and I've been too lazy to get around to it. So, if you were in the mood to reward my slacking off, woo-hoo! If not, something upbeat and swingy (big band jazz, modern club, whatever) would be fabulous.
Eureka
I am going to miss this show so freaking HARD. It started out as a goofy entertainment, and worked its way up to AMAZING CRAPBALLS OF JOY. Women were allowed to be awesome villains and heroes, men were allowed to fail and succeed, and geeks all over the place Got Some. Every single account of the behind-the-scenes of this show led me to believe that it was one of the best places to work. If I had millions to throw at a show (and bringing back Farscape or SGA was impossible), I would sponsor this to go on forever.
If you could give me something about the hijinks, good and bad, of living in a town of geniuses with no limits, I would be incandescently happy.
In continuing news of my selfishness: I've always had a hankering for a Eureka vid set to the Jams "A Town Called Malice". You'd be saving me so much effort! ;) But if that doesn't float your boat, go for what does.
Heathers
Once upon a time, I had a mad crush on Christian Slater and this movie. It felt real in its devastating portrayal of high school, even as it reveled in its over-the-top-ness. The vivid, color-saturated outfits; the snark; the teenage lust (oh, the strip croquet scene!); the black humor: I don't know that any teen movie ever captured the same feelings. Condensing that in a vid would be righteous.
It came from the 80s! At least the movie did - if you could find music from that decade to match, that would suit me just fine.
Kindred: The Embraced
This was one of the cheesiest of the cheesy vampire shows. Everyone was so pretty and earnest. Twilight is totally the bastard child of this short-lived series: vampire politics, human-vampire love stories, betrayal and intrigue...Oh, show. It's completely ridiculous, and so am I for requesting it. Challenge accepted, vidder?
Something completely overwrought, like Evanescence, Florence + The Machine, or some other gothic pop would be excellent as a soundtrack.
Phineas and Ferb
The best thing on the Disney channel right now. No joke: I totally watch this with my son, hour after hour. It's one of those amazing shows that works on a bunch of different levels: physical comedy for the kids, satire for the adults, songs in every genre for music fans, secret spy shenanigans for intrigue buffs. See my music requests for suggestions, or go wild. Heaven knows the show does.
You could pick a tune from the show (there's hundreds of songs there, each less than 2 minutes). I would also squee over Thomas Dolby's "Hyperactive" (for the boys' boundless energy), or Grease's "You're the One that I Want" (for the budding romances of Phineas/Isabella, Ferb/Vanessa, Candace/Jeremy, and so on). (You know you want to do my work for me, right?) But Phineas and Ferb would frown on limits, so do what suits you!
Wolf Lake
Here, lemme copy and paste everything I said about Kindred: The Embraced, and do a find/replace on vampires to werewolves. (You may have noticed that I have a type: cheesy supernatural, lite on the horror. I am so easy for it, I should have shame. But I don't. *grin*)
This was one of the cheesiest of the cheesy werewolf shows. Everyone was so pretty and earnest. Teen Wolf is totally the bastard child of this short-lived series: werewolf politics, human-werewolf love stories, betrayal and intrigue...Oh, show. It's completely ridiculous, and so am I for requesting it. Challenge accepted, vidder?
I can't even begin to offer a suggestion for music. The show is about werewolves. Run with it. (Heh.)
I really hope you have fun with one (or more! I'm totally greedy like that!) of these requests. Just picture me jumping up and down, dancing a fangirl boogie of total joy, because that's what I'll be doing when I get to see it.
