grammarwoman: (Bookworm Emperor)
[personal profile] grammarwoman
Whew! I survived the weekend of frantic fun. As I predicted, though, I am Wiped Out. The Emperor enjoyed the circus, not so much for the events under the Big Top but the chance to ride a camel and an elephant. I'm glad the tickets were as cheap as they were, because the circus staff merched the crap out of us. Between the shiny geegaws, the cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, balloons, and so on, it was a never-ending parade of BUY THIS NOW. I was especially grateful to [profile] dsjones, [profile] deaconobvious, and [profile] wetdyke, as without them and their entourage, the Emperor would have been pinballing off strangers on three sides instead of just one. The birthday party for a classmate at the pool went really well today. He swam for an hour and a half, snacked on cheese, crackers, and cake frosting, then sweet-talked me into letting him swim for a little bit longer. I think he'd still be in there if I hadn't literally pulled him out. Somehow he stayed awake without a single blinky until bedtime, whereupon he crashed HARD. OH! So we were talking about the birthday party beforehand and that it was going to be at a pool. Emperor: "So we're going to my school?" [Daycare has its own pool.] Me: "No, sweetie, a different one." E: "Diana's pool?" [the husband's former coworker, who hosted a similar shindig for her son.] Me: "Nope, a different one." E: "Huh...Liverpool, where the Beatles are from?" We just about died. There was a similarly amusing moment at the farmer's market Saturday morning. Normally he's really shy with strangers, hiding behind me when they greet him. However, a little boy's T-shirt caught his eye, so he struck up a conversation. Emperor: "Is that Lego Star Wars on your shirt?" Random little boy: "Yup." E: "I love that game!" RLB: "Is it hard?" E: "Nope!" RLB: "Is it easy?" E: "Yup!" [If you're the Emperor and have spent weeks playing it, sure.] RLB's dad pulled him away shortly after that; I think he was worried that he was going to be pestered to pick up a copy of the game on their way home. I was so proud of my budding little geek - I can't wait for his first convention.
