Thank Zod that we finally had gorgeous weather over the weekend, so I could get some outside work done.  (Yes, the weekend was several days ago, but as usual, it's taken me this long to catch up with my reading.)

I did some planting of herbs that have been waiting a week, some anti-planting of weeds while the ground was sopping enough to provide little resistance to pulling (DIE FRAKKING THISTLES DIE DIE DIE!!!), and some cleaning of the all the cursed unwanted trees growing up along the back fence.  It looks like it's going to be a bumper crop again for the raspberries.  Any locals are more than welcome to come dig up some red raspberry bushes, as we've got a veritable hedge.  Same goes for the mint, though that comes with a warning – it's been growing wild and wooly and interbreeding with the other herbs so long (I'm looking at you, oregano!) that it's developed a flavor that I refer to as "Punch-you-in-the-face mint".

The Emperor is deeply entrenched in his Lego Star Wars/Batman habit, so prying him away to do something else was a bit of a challenge.  I mean, I vividly remember the "But I don't WANNA go outside" days of my own youth.  I have to sternly remind myself that even though the distraction allows me to get so much done, an Emperor cannot live on PS2 alone.  I'm hoping that once the reading thing really takes, he'll be off and running (OK, sitting, but with a sprinting imagination).  Right now, though, his skills are limited to the simple books at school.  *thinks 'on' at Emperor's brain*  It doesn't help that I've been thoroughly sucked into the games as well.  I'm just helping him finish out the minikit bonuses/earning him enough studs to get the score multipliers/closing out the tough levels.  Honest, I can stop any time.

This past weekend I also pulled two plastic totes worth of outgrown clothes from his closet, a task that I've been meaning to do for too long.  It's always such a feeling of relief to get this kind of stuff done that I have to kick myself for putting it off for too long.  The number of items remaining on the to-do list is still very scary, like floor scrubbing, exterior painting, garage and patio cleanup…*sigh*

With that said, the long weekend is shaping up to be more fun than work.  A cookout, a trip to the zoo, and (hopefully) lots of sleeping in are on my forecast.

Up next, a warning – I've got lots of backlog stored up in my brain to post.  As always, feel free to skim.  Things to come – reposts of fic written elsewhere, my thoughts on TV, and cons.

Onward!
