Enjoying the view

What a difference two weeks makes. The Emperor went from flinging the glasses off of his face, to wearing them for short periods, to now, when he asks for them first thing in the morning and doesn't want to take them off at night. I love my little goober.

It's getting to the point, too, that he's starting to look "funny" when he's _not_ wearing them. I wonder if he's starting to develop the "naked face" feeling, or if it's all about seeing more clearly.

What's worrisome, though, is that the daycare teacher told us that he had a tantrum this past week where he was banging his head against the floor and wouldn't stop. They brought him a pillow as a cushion and he flung it away. Finally they just had to pick him up and restrain him. He didn't have a mark afterwards, so *phew* that he didn't hurt himself.

I would be more than willing to chalk it up to the terrible twos, but there's a range of sensory problems in my husband's family. His oldest sister has four boys; two of them are autistic and one has Asberger's. Al has (in my layman's opinion, anyway) sensory defensiveness. So the specter is looming large over our heads. If we can make it to the Emperor's third year without his exhibiting any severe symptoms, we will be breathing huge sighs of relief.

But hey, it's Friday -- time to kick back and enjoy the SciFi channel offerings.

The WW threw headbanging tantrums, too.

Certain things run in M's biological families. Massive ADHD, f'r instance. Some other stuff. We look at him -- his need for strict routines, his sensitivity to sounds, his difficulty switching tasks, his emotional spiral when thwarted, his full-body-banging tantrums -- and we are very happy we are homeschooling him. Because while I am reasonably certain that M has nothing diagnoseable, he's on the edge for a number of traits considered pathologies by the public education system.

So, sympathy.

Don't worry Kim, the Emperor is FINE. Throwing tantrums is PERFECTLY NORMAL behavior for any two-year-old. Heck, maybe he had a headache or something, if his eyes are adjusting to the glasses?
